That's why I said slightly fixed. I was also considering "Joe Paterno - Dying", "Joe Paterno - On His Deathbed", and "Sandusky - Alive".

I just don't think people understand how difficult it is to fix mistakes like that. If all of you could just think about what you do before doing it than we wouldn't have to use phrases like that. That's all I'm saying.

I think it's nuts that if not for the scandal, he would have still been the coach of a Division 1 college football team. A man who basically died of old age would have still been the coach.

It's super common for guys to die right after retiring. Hell, lots of people predicted he wouldn't last 3 months after they fired him.

Most other times i would feel bad for the guy.
But the fact that he as the face and lets face it, the power of the school let him continue to do what he did and not alert the proper authories and not just pass it on, i can't have any remorse for him at all.
He could have stopped it way before a lot of kids lives got ruined, and chose not to, then preached religion and morality to others.
Sorry, zero remorse.
I lost respect for Paterno years ago, long before the scandal.
He let his ego get in the way of the school and its football program.
Instead of stepping aside and letting a young guy have a chance at a coveted head coaching position, Paterno basically said he'd die on the sidelines before stepping down.
That being said, I know he has millions who looked up to him, and I offer my condolences.

Really G?
Because Millions looked up to him?
I can think of many guys that millions looked up to, should we offer our condolences to them?

The condolences are for the millions, not paterno.
If people are grieving, I offer condolences.
I don't have to share their love, admiration, or respect for someone.

Whoever looked up to him following this is stupid and ignorant and NO CONDOLENCES should be offered.

Penn State just put on a clinic on how not to do crisis communication.
Why McQueary was still working and on the sidelines will always bother me. Don't give me this crap about "whistleblower" laws, he did JUST as much reporting as JoePa did.
Great, now all those self-righteous Penn Staters will come out of the woodwork again.

I hope He also doesn't need a radio show co-host who can keep one.

BTW:
Whistlerblower law is to prevent companies from firing you in retaliation.
JoePa was fired for "not doing more".
McQ can be fired for the same, and that's not retaliation.

Joe Paterno's true legacy (http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/7492873/rick-reilly-paterno-true-legacy)
A good article. By most accounts a decent, yet stern man.
Paterno is an excellent example of what can happen with weak oversight. He basically built a cult at Penn State and everyone was afraid of crossing him. Even the Athletic Director, supposedly his boss, played for him. The school president and Board of Trustees should have told him it is time to retire, with dignity, years ago.
I heard a caller on some talk show and he made a good point. He said how come no pictures of Paterno's grandchildren and Sandusky have surfaced. Or any stories about Sandusky spending time with them. If Paterno really didn't suspect anything that would be a good defense.

The posthumous excuse-making for Paterno continues, including Nike founder Phil Knight:
It was Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight who broke the dam, defending Paterno's handling of child-sex allegations that were leveled against a former coaching assistant.
"If there is a villain in this tragedy, it lies in that investigation and not in Joe Paterno's response," Knight said. Paterno's widow, Sue, was among those rising to their feet.

If Knight is alleging that the real problem here is that the investigation was incompetent, well, maybe the fact that Paterno covered for a fucking kid toucher is part of why it didn't get Sandusky earlier.
Phil Knight is a piece of shit who made billions selling overpriced shoes made by slave child labor in the third world to people who can't afford his shit anyway. Fuck him.

crisis communication clinic?
Joe passed the shit off to the university and wiped his hands of the situation, and the university decided to do pretty much nothing about it at all. Joe did too little but at least he can claim he passed it up the ladder while the university swept it under the rug. When it did in fact come out, they scapegoated the coach, who surely has some blame in the end, but let's not act like the school is any better with the original events. Who gives a fuck how they handled it later. At that point they had no choice and they made some odd/rash calls in fear bc they have so much shit on their hands too. The only thing that saves them a little is they aren't an individual like Joe and face of the school. His plea/communication that he was taken aback by the info when it happened and didn't really know how to deal with it is surely weak, but at the same time one can see he was always just a coach. Once things never came of him reporting the information Joe surely should have done more. I do wonder how much he told his son and wife before it all went public too? How Sandusky was anywhere near psu after that baffles me in so many ways, much less a free man.
