i figure instead of having 10 different threads for each big thing that get 10 posts each, would could just use this one for all the majors and etc golf talk this season.

Anyone who cares, Tiger is teeing off at 10:40 pm (about 35 min from now) for the first round of the HSBC champ in Abu Dhabi. HJis first tourney of the year and first since he won in australia or whatever. apparently abu dhabi gave like 20 guys appearance fees so rory is there, i think playing with tiger.

Its gonna be on Golf Channel Live when he tees off at 1040.

That being said, I am in the middle of PA in the middle of winter. I refuse to think about golf.

on the courses down here I'd need something akin to the green monster bordering these fairways. If you go out of bounds down here the houses are so close you're likely to find yourself in the middle of some ladies tupperware party, I bought 2 bowl sets and one of those shape toys last year just to get my ball back. It would still be a real win, first one in 2 1/2 years.

Nevermind the whole women at Augusta stuff.

What I always wondered is what they (the uptight Augusta people) think about the Par 3 contest on Wednesday when the golfers let their kids run wild on their pristine course.
I could see them having a stroke watching these little kids playing in the traps like it's a sand box and throwing shit all over.

ok 2 things here. One, its a different course. the par 3 is on the Par 3 course which is 9 holes and on the same grounds, but its not hte course they play the masters on.

And 2, and ill type this big so it sinks in. WOMEN AND CHILDREN PLAY AT AUGUSTA ALL THE TIME.

they have no official female members, but they dont keep women out. they are there all the time as guests of members. Its not like they are anti women. They just arent members

They didn't have to let in blacks but they did in the early 90's

I never said they had to I was eluding to since Rometty is the 1st Female CEO and that IBM is a major factor there could be pressure on Augusta to allow her as a member. Erin Burnett had a segment on this last night and if this gets picked up more there could be a movement for Augusta to cave in.

ok, do you know how much money they fuckin have? The only members who arent worth at least 100 mill are the honorary members who won the masters, and most of them are worth 100 mill too.

Also, lets take a trip back through history to about 10 years ago or so, maybe a bit less.

NOW, ironically, threatened to boycott all the sponsors of the masters if augusta didnt let in a female member. Do you remember what happened? I do

The Masters said ok, fuck you. Then pulled all commercials and ran the entire masters commercial free just to show they dont give a fuck and wont do anything based on what other people tell them. NOW backed off and they have been fine ever since. Why do you think NOW hasnt said shit to them in the last 10 years?

yea the best. Also, it did kinda change the way they run it. If you notice, ever since they have always championed how they only have 3 min of commercials every hour. Before that year, they had alot more. people love it so much they decided to triple the rate for a commercial and cut the amount to a third. Its one of my favorite sporting events every year and one of the reasons its so awesome is because they dont give a fuck what anyone thinks

Rommetty just took over at the beginning of they year she might not want to be involved in something like this so early into her tenure. As a CEO her main focus should be on the company's profits and to her board and shareholders and employees

had some thoughts on the majors and the effect Woods, even playing like shit, average or even just under the top 5, this HAS to take a huge amount of pressure off young and new leaders in huge tournaments...tack onto this the Mickelson effect not being that far off and I have to think it helped allow so many first time major winners, many young or no names for some time to step up and sneak in with much less pressure than they normally would have on them.

I've never actually played the game (except on my console), so I have no clue how the physics work.

How exactly do they get a shot to curve one way or another? I would think that as long as you are hitting the ball, it would just go straight off the club, so I don't understand what the golfers are doing to add draw or fade to the shot.

I've never actually played the game (except on my console), so I have no clue how the physics work.

How exactly do they get a shot to curve one way or another? I would think that as long as you are hitting the ball, it would just go straight off the club, so I don't understand what the golfers are doing to add draw or fade to the shot.

its pretty much the same way you make any ball curve. You hit it with the club head slightly open or closed (and a certain position) and it puts a left or right spin on the ball which makes it move to whichever side you are going for

I play and I whenever I putt, I just hit it straight. I am always amazed at how well these guys can read greens. Rory putted one yesterday that curved HUGE and he nailed it. I know they study this stuff all the time, but it's still cool to see.

Not even put-put?
Fade is a cut across action where draw is a timing deal with hands.

It's crazy that Jack called his flop shot such a huge shot, and I do like how he embraces the guy once thought to EASILY pass him with majors and best all-time (arguably) even now. He genuinely loves the thought of being passed and it's nice to see from a past great, yet that shot was plenty nice and all, it was hardly as big a shot as Jack made it out to be. He just wants to hype his tournament and his boy.

It is funny I want Tiger to fail BECAUSE I am a huge Nicklaus fan, yet he would not! Funny shit, but nice win from Tiger for once to earn the COUNTLESS coverage he gets every time he scratches his ass.

pro's make random shots like that all the time, but I think this one was big in that it was so clutch. Tiger may be completely unpredictable these days, no consitancy at all, but in the past he was clutch, I think it's big because it is a flash back, and possibly evidence that Tiger might really be on the way back.

thats why if you go and listen to what Jack actually said, he is right. he said Under the circumstance, it was the best shot he has seen.

He clarified the circumstance to mean with how tiger used to be, and how tough the last couple years are, then how tough the last couple tourneys were, for him to bounce back and drill that when he absolutely had to was incredible.

This is shaping up nice kinda at least it's not someone running off with it.

I saw Tiger's shot that bounced of the bunker brim and stayed online. Missed the one where it did what it does most times.

SUCK IT SCOTT, putt like a man

Imagine if Els found a way to win that US too, as he just couldn't keep it in the fairway off the tee or he would have.

Jim Furyk is looking good holding the lead in what is becoming a tight tourny.

Oosthuizen hit a 430 yrd drive and is challenging.

Lefty missed a green in back of a par three that bounced up near a fat Vol. worker who almost lost his pants when he scrambled to move it was funny.

Kyfur!

The PGA Championship has always been the major that interrests me least. I mean, with the Masters, you got Augusta and the green jacket and all that tradtion. The US Open is played on some of the world's most spectacular courses in brutal conditions that kick the asses of some of the greatest golfers ever. The [British] Open gives you St. Andrews and pot bunkers.

The PGA Championship, on the other hand, just feels like yet another tournament that pays more than the others.

i think cause its the only one thats actually a PGA tour event. The others started on their own seperate from any pro tours and are governed by their own shit. The PGA was started by the PGA and is governed by the PGA, so it gets the feel of a pro tourney more. Its alot like TPC

Daly loves his clown pants.

They're probably the best-fitting pair of pants he's ever had.

Why do these idiot spectators feel the need to run after a shot hit into the crowd and then stare at it? It's a fucking little white ball!

for the same reason they yell "get in the hole!" from the Tee box, on a par 5.

So glad the Ryder Cup is finished. I got caught up in security road closures three times this weekend. Watching the lines of rich white guys and wannabes walking across Irving Park and Lake blocking traffic sucked. If the Ryder Cup was for any other professional sport, I would love it.. but golf stinks.
