So remember Sarah Burke, the snowboarder who died earlier this month? She was Canadian but had her injury here in the US so was treated here. So she racked up around $200,000 in medical from the attempts to save her life.

And her fans had to do a fund raiser to collect enough money to avert her family from bankruptcy and losing their home. (http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/30/10274212-iconic-skiers-death-points-out-us-health-gap)

Since the death of Canadian skier Sarah Burke in January, fans and supporters from around the world have donated over $300,000 – more than enough to cover the massive U.S. medical bill generated by efforts to save her.
The outpouring of grief for Burke and the influx of funds are a tribute to a young woman who was a pioneer and legend in her sport. The need for a fundraiser — to help her grieving family avert bankruptcy — was viewed by some Canadians and U.S. observers as a condemnation of the U.S. health care system.

In some ways we are a real piece of shit country.

Eh, she participates in an "extreme" sport and doesn't have any insurance ?

Why aren't her sponsors paying the costs ?

she was in practice. she wasnt competing in anything at the time. thats why its on her. now, why she doesnt have insurance is she is canadian, so the country provides free healthcare.

That sux for her, I guess it really is EXTREME. Saw Shaun White get a fivepeet last night with his perfect run, that was cool.

the sickest part is he had the gold on lock already and still put down the first ever 100

Yeah, that was badass.

I like how good to each other all the x-gamers are. They seem competitive, but they also seem so fucking supportive of each other. They're so happy for the person who finishes with the gold.

no, clearly you have never rode or done anything like that. To be able to do the tricks he does, you need a ton of adrenaline goin. Being on a victory lap usually makes it harder to do tricks just cause its harder to get yourself ready to huck them for no reason

i said that to someone right after the dude did the snowmobile front flip and the other riders were goin so nuts for him the next competitor almost missed his run cause he was celebrating the kid
