Nick Cannon quits morning radio
The actor, musician and radio host suffers from kidney disease and needs to take some time to recuperate.
Nick Cannon announced Friday that he will give up hosting the morning show “Rollin‘ with Nick Cannon” at CBS Radio's WXRK to recuperate from recent mild kidney failure and associated blood clots in his lungs.
Mr. Cannon, 31, is an actor, musician and producer and is the chairman of Viacom's TeenNick network, part of Nickelodeon. He also hosts the television show America's Got Talent. He is married to singer Mariah Carey.
“My doctors just suggested that certain things be cut out of my schedule,” Mr. Cannon told Crain's Wednesday.
Mr. Cannon will continue to produce his syndicated show, “Cannon's Countdown” which is aired on the station on Sunday mornings.
“As much as I love doing morning radio, that was something that was really taking a toll on my health," Mr. Cannon said. “I try to be superman and do it all, but I would go weeks without really sleeping.”
The show aired from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. on weekday mornings.
CBS Radio issued a statement saying, “We respect and understand Nick's decision to step down from his day-to-day position as host of morning drive on 92.3 NOW, and fully support him as he takes on a less demanding role with the station in order to address his health.”
According to the station, 92.3 NOW was the ranked by Arbitron as the New York market's sixth most listened to station in 2011 and is No. 2 with teens.
