Outsourced!!!

Well yesterday was my last day. After 9 years with an investment management company, My position was eliminated along with about 90 other analysts, trade support, accounting and other middle and back office operations have been shipped to India as the offshore office became BAU which means fully functional.

It was expected and I have been looking to leave anyways. My company has gone downhill ever since the new CEO came aboard. I saw the writing on the wall last summer when a lot of people from India were coming here to train and learn our systems. Plus 90% of any emails I received internally were from people with traditional Indian names.



I did get a sweet severance deal which pays me to the end of the year and as well as my unused vacation will be given to me in a lump sum payment. I have some leads already so that means If I land something I will still get paid from my old job.

Heres the part where I need some advice/input. I havent been on a real vacation in almost 3 years. Ive taken days off when I was with my ex for long weekends but I wanna take some time off and recharge. If I do get some offers, Id love to collect 2 paychecks but at the same time I wanna enjoy myself for a couple of months. Im thinking of going to Tampa for a week to catch Yankees spring training. Ive always wanted to do that.

Thanks Budday, That company is going down, It lost over 400 Billion in Assets Under Management, Went to go see my parents to break the news and they said it was the least stressed theyve seen me in a long time. Im gonna be OK. I have a lot in savings, thankfully im in a good situation.

I already lined up a couple of networking events next week. Just booked a vaca to the Dominican Republic for the middle of March. A lot of my friends are married so the wives wont let them go to spring training.

When I was called into the Senior VP's office he gave me the explanation of how the company was not posting good earnings etc.

When I got home late morning (They dont make people work a full day before letting people go) and It really sunk in. I thought why I was cut. I had great reviews, I was promoted quickly and got along with upper management. If they needed people to come in on weekends (very rarely) for systems conversions, I was their guy.


I think it was because they wanted me to go to India back in 2010 for a year, but I wanted in writing that I would get another promotion and that they would have a spot for me when I got back. A few Junior analysts went for long term assignments and they got screwed over by not getting a bonus. The company said that their "bonus" was getting per diem. They were promised that they would be taken care of upon return but it never happened. I wasnt going to spend a year of my life over there without getting my due rewards. They couldnt give me anything in black and white so I told them no.

The prices for Mexico vacations are dirt cheap but Im staying the hell out of there. Some of the resort areas have been affected by the cartel violence.

When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton we would sometimes drive down to the border, park the car and go to Tijuana, this was back in the early 90's but now ,TJ as its called is a warzone

OK Now to vent a bit about the outsourcing.

Companies want to save money, however in my case in dealing with them. It was more bad than good. 1st of all theres the language factor. When I had to deal with them, they would use incorrect grammar, would always use the wrong tense and they would put on emails a term called "PLEASE DO THE NEEDFUL". When portfolio managers, financial advisors and outside brokers see all these errors they would always come back to the analysts and operations support areas and get pissed that they kept using these terms. It would piss us off too because we sent people over there to assist them on their english skills.


Also many of them in India can not analyze situations most of the time. Now they would always do the tasks when instructed but they have a hard time taking in all the info and many still cant work independently without assistance from the US office. Many times they have committed errors in which clients had to be refunded money due to incorrect trade amounts or if contributions to accounts were not posted in time. It seems like when companies try to cut corners it costs more in the long run.
