They really need to start treating the Nationwide Series like the minor leagues. That drivers race both days, and some drivers dont race the full Sprint Cup Series is maybe one of the most aggravating things in sports. It should be the same 42 drivers/cars for the full run of the season.

if they don't get some Sprint Cup guys to run Nationwide then they get no ratings, no ratings no sponsors no series. The part time guys in the Sprint series is new to the last 5 years or so, the bad economy has made it tough to find full time sponsors for anybody but the big names, there just aren't 43 full time sponsors to be had,

The points (and championships) should be awarded to the "Team" anyway, not just the individual driver.

And, yes, I realize that you could have teams bringing in road course ringers, or other specialist drivers, but so what?

Yeah, but this happens every now and then, and there would probably more changes and moves if teams weren't tied to just one driver every year.

Like this year. Penske got shafted by Allmendinger, when they should have been able to get "team" points for what Hornish and the "team" earned.

Not that they would have made the chase... but injuries, illness.... stuff happens during a long race season, and the teams shouldn't be punished, nor should the drivers be pressured into performing when they aren't 100%.

this is definately one way to look at it, but like you mentioned before, teams would start using specialized drivers for different types of tracks, using Road course ringers would evolve into there being restrictor plate specialist and short track specialist.
The way it is now, if you want to be champion, you have to be a great driver on a great team and have an amazing year.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the winner will be the first car on lead lap to cross finish line

the problem is that with these new cars that could end up being the car that crosses the line first on the first lap. These new cars are so light in the rear that bump drafting causes wrecks, without the bumps there's very little passing.

Since 2112 only got 5 pages of posts, I dropped the 2112 from the thread title. Hopefully, the new cars will actually make NASCAR fun again this year.
EDIT: And merged the new one to this one.

I think the new cars will be good for Nascar overall, at every track except the restrictor plate tracks the driver and the handling will be more of a factor than recent years. But because of the light rear ends in these new cars, the Daytona 500 will be a follow the leader race until the last 10 laps or so, then guys will start trying to bump draft, because passing is impossible without it, and the wrecking will begin.

I agree, but that'll be back in the pack, not challenging for the lead. In the shootout and the twin 125's the best 5 to 10 cars have been in a line until the end.

Did anyone catch that new camera angle from inside the car. The camera moves so you see the banking when they go into the turns. Very cool to see the car go to 30 some degrees.

Gordon screwed himself with that speeding penalty in the duels race. Hopefully he will do better on Sunday.

I must be a real asshole, me and Jafter live in the same town, and are both Gordon fans, and R&F Fans, but we've never even talked, let alone met.

I think it's gonna be a fun season, these new cars will make it more about the drivers and less about the stupid "aeropush" than previous years. Everybody's car is different again.

Looks like one of the Nationwide cars flew up into the catch fence and rained debris on the fans, no word on injuries yet. Last time this happened Fez was calling for an end to Nascar. The trick to going to a Nascar race is to spend a little extra and get up off the track, front row seats are the cheap seats because of how little you can see, and because this can happen.

in the post race interview, when asked about falling from 3rd to 8th on the last lap Danica said she got "freight trained", this reminded me of other commonly used Nascar phrases that she probably shouldn't use, even though they are used by every driver in every race. She shouldn't say "I'm Loose" "I'm tight" and her spotter should never tell her "the 88 cars inside you" , and hopefully when she's passing cars and making her way to the front the announcers have the good sense not to say "don't look now, Danica's coming"

thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week:bye:

I would love to know what kind of back room deals had to be made to get Stewart/Haas to put Danica in one of the top rides in the series. Other than the 2 restrictor plate tracks she is gonna stink it up all year because she is just not ready to race these big cars at this level. 23 laps into a 267 lap race, she went a lap down.

she finished 8th at Daytona, where you basically floor it and steer, she wrecked out at Pheonix, and at last check she was 32nd, 5 laps down today, driving the same equipment as the leader, Kahne. That shouldn't happen

isn't it her first full year at the top level, much less she has a WHOLE lot less experience at this and almost every track compared to Kahne? plus, talk about a small sample to be making such drastic conclusions...this year and career.

give it some time, as there are plenty in the circuit that are worse and shouldn't be there

I think she'll be a mid pack player most of the year and it's not very off most "better" drivers tracks when they come in to the Nascar circuit.

not seeing the issue, adjustments are normal and take time bt every level and I find it odd to pretty much dismiss an 8th anywhere

I have no arguments with Nascar showing some diversity, it's driving, you have to think that women can do it too. My problem is with the marketing side seemingly becoming so involved in the overall product. Sponsors want young pretty people to be the spokesmen and women of the sport, there is no place anymore for a Ken Schrader type driver. Compared to other drivers moving up from what is basically the minor leagues Danica has not earned an elite ride, yet. I have no doubt that she's the most qualified female driver, and I think that with time she will become a good driver. But I think she sits where she sits this early because she's a pretty face with potential, I'm afraid it will backfire and she'll lose this opportunity for bad performance because she was moved up too soon to satisfy a need.
Kyle Busch is an outstanding driver, but he's an ugly prick. That's why every commercial they put him in he's got his helmet on. It's all about marketing now.

Truth Bomb.

After Dale died the rules changed in Nascar, they no longer tolerate anyone being an "Intimidator", Dale Sr. was a bit of a prick, if he caught you and you didn't move over and let him pass within a few laps, he'd wreck you. They'll park you for that kind of driving now. And a lot of the current safety features were put in place after he died, he fought against these type changes even telling Jr. to never wear a full face helmet. When safety issues were discussed he was known to tell people to "rub some turpentine around their ankles so the ants don't climb up and eat your candy ass". He had such pull with Nascar leadership that none of the stuff we see now, Hans devices, soft walls, and full face helmets, were made mandatory until he died. A Hans device would have saved the stubborn old bastard. Nobody has died since he did because of the safety features he wanted no part of.

Edit: I also like what Stewart had to say about Logano...
Logano also threw a water bottle at Stewart, which the latter driver described as the actions of "a little girl."
"It's time he learns a lesson," Stewart said. "He's run his mouth long enough and done this double standard, but he's nothing but a little rich kid who has never had to work in his life."

I thought the last lap beating and banging between Logano and Hamlin was just hard racing, you never want to see a driver settle a score at 200 mph, save that shit for a short track. But then Logano made the statement "after last week, that's what he gets" while Hamlin was on his way to the hospital, that was ill advised. As for Stewart, Logano did nothing more than slide down and block Stewart when he was trying to pass for the lead, something Stewart has done countless times, him being a hothead is well documented, and wanting to beat up a skinny kid is beneath him as a team owner. But it was damned entertaining.
