It's funny: the Monkees took shit for being manufactured at the time, derisively called the "Pre-Fab Four." And, yeah, they deserved it, because that's what they were, obviously. That said, though, I think they still managed to display a hell of a lot more talent and even creativity than a lot of pop acts now. Certainly more than anyone who's won that shitty American Idol show.

It's funny: the Monkees took shit for being manufactured at the time, derisively called the "Pre-Fab Four." And, yeah, they deserved it, because that's what they were, obviously. That said, though, I think they still managed to display a hell of a lot more talent and even creativity than a lot of pop acts now. Certainly more than anyone who's won that shitty American Idol show.
Mike Nesmith actually put out some respectable stuff after The Monkees with the First National Band.
I remember a great quote he gave when asked if he was ever ashamed of being in The Monkees: "That would like a flower being ashamed of having been a seed."
