http://idealab.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/kickstarter-expects-to-provide-more-funding-to-the-arts-than-nea.php

Kickstarter is having an amazing year, even by the standards of other white hot Web startup companies, and more is yet to come.

One of the company’s three co-founders, Yancey Strickler, said that Kickstarter is on track to distribute over $150 million dollars to its users’ projects in 2012, or more than entire fiscal year 2012 budget for the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), which was $146 million.

And they didn't have to point a single gun at anyone to do it!

Of course not, thats what government is for.

Now you're on the trolley.

Im confused, are you saying government funding is a bad thing or that its good to have corporations and government working towards the same goal?

StanUpshaw
03-04-2012, 06:06 PM
The former.

Crispy123
03-04-2012, 06:11 PM
So the only reason a corporation can exist is because governments have been formed, many wars have been fought and millions of people have been killed throughout history. But no one had to point a gun for kickstarter.com to raise money for the arts. Got it.

That's completely incoherent, even by your standards.

I really can't tell.

I figure it's you trying to justify your lust for state violence, and your pride in being a part of it. Oorah.

Thats part of it. I really can't stand mofos who have never served a day in the military but enjoy the ability to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness tell me they have never and would never take a government handout.

And also to say that a corporation doesn't have to point a gun, meaning government funding is a bad thing, is ultimate naivety.

Atheism is the rejection of the supernatural. Why would it have anything to say about human nature?

if you are saying it is inherently good or bad, one way or the other, then you are going outside the realm of nature. Yes?

I'm not saying that. I was mocking your ideas about the necessity of the state, and how I need brave men like you to defend my life and liberty.

It's pointing out the flawed logic you use to defend the state. I don't expect you to agree with it. Cognitive dissonance is a powerful thing.

I'm 34, a father, and an aspiring stand up comic so I practice non-violence now as a means of conflict resolution. I'm not very good yet, but I practice.

so unless it's a paying audience, I let the military and the cops in the unions take care of the killing these days.

I love how he's all anti-government but he's basically quoting Heinlein. Oh "anti-government" types, how much you long for your fascist overlords to scoop you up and out of the minority-infested neighborhoods.

Could the two girls engaged in an anonymous internet slap-fight, cool it down already?

On Topic: I wonder how much USAProjects.org will raise. If you don't know it, USAProject is like Kickstarter but raises money for "new creative efforts by accomplished artists."

Jim Woodring is currently raising money (http://www.usaprojects.org/project/fran) there for the sequel to his "Congress of Animals" book from last year.

So quoting something that's all but lifted straight from a Heinlein novel with a straight face to advocate your "small government" beliefs? Not too surprising that most conservatives still don't see the irony of worshiping the military yet crying foul with the government. Oh, and the fascism thing.

maybe the fact that you spent an hour last night making a straw man argument and then tried to make a b.s. call on Syd for the same thing, is a little confusing?
