View Full Version : Where can you find a good Cell Phone plan?

I've tried the main sites, but their stuff seems a little expensive. Here's what I have with the phone I presently own that expires in 2 months...
Free Long Distance
First incoming minute free
Free phone
200 weekday minutes (but I want more)
1000 weekend minutes
Free voicemail, call waiting, 3way, forwarding.
Right now I pay 30 bucks a month, but it's through MCI, who I hate. Anyone have any ideas on a good new plan for around 30-40 bucks?

I have a few friends who work for Voicestream...depending on how their sales have been they may be able to give you a really good deal. I got my phone for half price and the activation fee waived. I get a ridiculous amount of minutes for $39.99 a month

Awww you're too sweet :)
I replied to you and sent an email to my friend telling him to make sure he gets in touch with me tomorrow!! I forgot to mention Voicestream has free cell to cell calls and text messaging. Their coverage in NJ is really good. Look out for more info tomorrow :)

Hey, thanks a lot Poison Ivy! I appreciate it, and you totally rock!!! If you can hook me up, I'll totally be in your debt.
And Louis, I am proud! See, I made a new friend, and I didn't have to brainwash anyone into thinking I'm #1, like some people do to gain friends!

OK, I admit I chuckled while reading this thread. Thanks Lou!
Verizon has some pretty good deals now. I have 400 anytime minutes, 3500 nights and weekend minutes, free long distance in US for $45 a month.
I've found verizon to be very good regarding the quality of the connections, far better than AT&T and Voicestream. Of course, connections usually depend on where you call from and the number of towers in the area so I don't think you can extrapolate much from one individuals experience.

Try looking at the ads near the front of the NY Press or Village Voice. There's dozens of stores advertising different deals.

Verizon has the best service since they took over Bell mobile who only did cell phones.. they have the most towers in our area and i think the nation.. don't ever by Cingular.. they suck so much especially in north jersey... verizon and sprint i think are the best going right now...

I have verizon and
$35/month with 300
minutes & some ridiculous
number of night and
wekend minutes (more
than I could ever use) and
long distance and all that;
the coverage is better than
AT&T, generally speaking -
that's what my father has
and I often get coverage
where he cant, all over the
country.

I had Voicestream. Everything was great with the exception of them wanting a 100 dollar deposit.
The only thing that sucked about Voicestream was that reception in my house blew.
I switched to Verizon and although it's a bit different with interface, I'm pretty happy so far. Plus I got near-nationwide free roaming on my plan - "America Share".
So personally, I'd go with Verizon over Voicestream. Deals in the beginning are great, but don't forget, this is a one-year commitment.

Yeah, that deposit thing is weird. I didn't have to put one down but my friend did when he got his. I don't know why they do that sometimes...

Maybe their cell phone service is different, but generally I try to avoid using Verizon as much as possible. It seems like everybody I know who has done business with them has had problems, usually with Verizon overcharging them or giving them the wrong plan. When I signed up for local phone service, I asked for the simplest, cheapest plan. One month laster my bill comes and it says "Premium Local Service", along with a heafty price tag! My friend is still trying to resolve the problems he had getting cell service through them.
As far as I'm concerned, Verizon is simply evil.

I'd venture to say you should ask Carrot Top or Terry Bradshaw this question... they seem to know a lot about phone type stuff.
