You know, I can see getting upset about it when it's someone who actually was killed over their religion, like a Holocaust victim. Beyond that, yeah, who gives a damn.

Agreed on that. The impulse behind the Mormons' actions at least seems open-hearted unlike a significant fraction of the evangelical Christians in this country (and Li'l Ricky Santorum) who seem to relish telling everybody outside their posse that they're going to Hell. If I recall my days as a Catholic schoolboy correctly, and I usually try not to, we were forced to pray to Jesus to cut the poor souls in Purgatory an ounce of slack so they could get paroled and strap on some wings. I fail to see how that is different from the Mormon angle.

Secondly, is their another high profile pundit in the intelligensia that does less work (ie. less thinking) than Maureen Dowd? Her brand of snark may have been timely in the early days of the Clinton regime but her act is pretty fucking stale at this point. I fear that all the Botox she gets pumped into her stony visage has seeped into her skull noodle and frozen up the works.
