Stone made up stuff in a movie that people just assumed was supposed to be a factual portrayal of history. Guess what people... Most movies are works of fiction, at best, "based on actual events".

If you liked Scarface and Natural Born Killers, you'll like Savages.

I always felt he was a shitty, overhyped director. No way this is good.

Natural Born Killers is one of those movies that just gets worse every time I watch it.

Haha. Opening weekend I stood alone in my hatred of ”Natural Born Killers.” Now everyone jumped on the bandwagon. There again, I was screaming at my friends about what a pile of crap ” Twister” was, too

I hated Scarface when I first saw it, but I've since grown to appreciate it on a "this is dumb but fun" level.
NBK just annoys me with its pretension of being some sort of profound social commentary. Then again, I also can't stand True Romance, so I think I just have a weird dislike for stuff that Tarantino writes but doesn't direct.

Yeah, I think that without Tarantino's visual style -- or, probably more importantly, without him directing the actors on how to deliver that dialog -- Tarantino's writing falls flat.

NBK is a total mess and it's definitely pretensious and really heavy handed and garish, but I think it's kindof fun. Scarface is just boring except for the really silly parts. But I think True Romance is a legitimately good movie.
What about how Tarintino acts in things he hasn't written? Like Destiny Turns on the Radio?

I heard enough negative things about Destiny in the 90s to steer me away from seeing it. Is it as bad as I've heard? The only acting I've seen Tarantino do outside of his own movies is in Robert Rodriguez movies, but I think he usually manages to pull off the characters he's given there (okay, he has some awkward moments in From Dusk Till Dawn).
I'm not much of a Rodriguez fan, but I had to begrudgingly admit to liking Planet Terrror over Death Proof.

I saw it on VHS, I remember it being really really terrible.
I like Death Proof. From Dusk Till Dawn is my Robert Rodriguez movie but I used to like El Mariachi a lot, too. His segment in Four Rooms is good, too.

I really wanted to love Death Proof, but the annoying characters and cheesy dialog just killed it for me. The action scenes were great, but it wasn't enough to make up for how actively irritating I found the rest of it. I left the movie thinking, "Oh, this is why some people hate Tarantino." Inglourious Basterds more than made up for it though.

Death Proof was okay. Nothing great. But I completely hatred the girl at the beginning of the movie.

Stone and Tarentino are both talented writer/directors.
I don't want to say it's apples and oranges but they are different.
I would say I like them equally. They both have things I like very much but they can drive me crazy too.
I'll just say that a film like JFK was very controversial and attacked by many but it is also defended by many as a brilliant piece of film making.
I think the one thing you can say about both is thet have big hanging pedulous balls.
I like Savages but it definately has a few problems (John Travolta's face).

I loved NBK.
Still do.
It's not subtle, and... therefore... it's easy to hate. But it's also a very exciting and chaotic (in a good way) film. It has so many great scenes. As a piece of "art", it's not much to brag about. It's not a commentary. But as a rollercoaster? It's fantastic. It leaves all subtlety at the door.

Salma Hayek should make up for that.

Saw it today..
Liked it . It's an actual ADULT film , with REAL violence , not fake CGI shit , and some good performances .Some critics are slamming Blake Lively's performance, but I think she gets the California stoner hipster-chick down right . And Bennicio del Toro is appropriately slimy.

You mean, ” makeup effect-based violence” right? I don't want to have a talk that involves convincing you that pro-wrestling is choreographed and they didn't really stab John Travolta.

OK , ya got me . I meant cars exploding from RPGs being fired at them, not fake explosions like you'd probably see in SpiderMan. However, the mere HINT of chopping somebody up with a chainsaw is scary (and one that Stone has done before, to good effect, you cockaroach )
Also, note in the credits that the gore EFX guy is Greg Nicotero, the same guy that does the Walking Dead and other good physical effects

For people who care about these sort of things and for people who don't care for these sort of things, I should mention a torture scene includes a mushed up eyeball dangling from a guy's face. It definately wasn't CGI.

Is this a series that goes along with the book he was plugging on O&A yesterday?
Because I was fascinated by that interview. That book sounds awesome.
