The actor who portrayed Lenny on "Laverne & Shirley" and David St. Hubbins in "This Is Spinal Tap" was hospitalized after being struck by a car on the Upper West Side on Tuesday afternoon, sources said.
Michael McKean, 64, suffered a broken leg and facial lacerations when a car jumped the curb at 86 St. and Broadway, according to sources. He was being treated at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital.
An actor with a wide comedic range and great musical skills, McKean first gained recognition as Lenny from the TV hit “Laverne & Shirley.” He went on to play Spinal tap lead guitarist David St. Hubbins in the cult comedic classic “This is Spinal Tap.”
McKean, a New York City native, also did a brief stint as cast member on SNL in 1994. In 2003, he reunited with Spinal Tap band mate and longtime collaborator Christopher Guest on “A Mighty Wind.”
A car jumping a curb is like an urban shark attack. You never know.
I just saw him last month at the TV Land Awards show. I never would have guessed he was 64, as he looks much younger.
Squiggy, however, looked 94.
