"I SAID, I DUNNO MARTY, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO TONIGHT?"

He killed it in the 1950's movie "Marty", and generally seems to have made a decent career for himself for a half century after that.

He was also responsible for the one instance where everybody could enjoy a Fox News bit.

Godspeed Mr. Borgnine.

From all accounts he seemed like a class act. And his best movie?

Oddly enough he was a Jeopardy answer tonight for Marty.

Oddly enough he was a Jeopardy answer tonight for Marty.

And the final Jeopardy answer is "This game show host kills elderly celebrities, Dexter-style, to create poignant moments in a futile attempt to build ratings for his syndicated nerd fest."

Keep that Canuck away from Abe Vigoda and Betty White.

Yahoo put out a list of his "best known movies". The list was 75 movies long!

The most famous person from my hometown: besides Eli Whitney and The Rock.

He was good in the Poseidon Adventure. He seemed to be a guy who was always happy; 95 is a good run and he was healthy just about all of it.

R.I.P.

He had an interesting story in his autobiography. He was in From Here to Eternity as Fatso Judson who beat Frank Sinatra's Maggio to death.

He was making another movie (in NYC, I think) and he was surrounded by four Teamsters who said "You're the guy who beat Sinatra, you're dead". So he put up his fists and said in Italian "I may be dead but I'm going to take a couple of you with me".

Surprised, one of them said "You're Italian?" He said "Yes, my real name is Borgnino". Then they said something like "Oh, that's OK then".

Italians...

My question is, did they let him off the hook because he was a fellow Italian, or did they just use that as an excuse to back out of a fight with someone who scared the shit out them?

It's been a while since I read the book but they let him off the hook because he was Italian. The fact that Borgnine beat Sinatra to death in a movie and Sinatra wasn't actually dead didn't seem to be relevant to these guys.
