I thought "Oz" was the place, and the guy was "The Wizard".
Am I wrong about that?

Maybe they named the place after the Wizard.

I can't get the trailer to play right now, but I swear that when "the wizard" arrives, someone welcomes him to "Oz" (or tells him, "this is Oz", or some shit)
From IMDB: "A prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz that tells how the Wizard arrived in Oz became the ruler".
So "Oz" was already there.
But, then, for James Franco, they show his character name as "Oz".
So the guy gets there, takes over, and then names himself after the place he just conquered?
Kind of a dick move.

He's a delusional crackpot and a babbling idiot.
Finally, after many many decades, the movie that answers the questions no one was asking.

The "wizard" has a name. Oscar Diggs. So he goes to Oz, somehow becomes the ruler, and now he IS Oz?
It'd kinda be like Hitler in 1934 announcing to his people, "I am Germany! The Great and Powerful!"

The first play I did where I had an actual role was the Wizard of Oz. I played the Wizard. It was a fun time.

I couldn't say my R's well when I was younger so when I delivered that line "I am Oz, the great and powerful" it sounded like I had peanut butter in my mouth.

Holy shit this movie was boring.
I give it the lowest possible score. I can't remember a movie that was more aimless & flashy than this Oz prequel.
Oh wait! I can! Suckerpunch.
Suckerpunch is about as bad.

Not sure what anyone would expect?! They should stop with all the fucking garbage remakes and prequels/follow ups to past popular shit just bc they have no creativity or the balls to try something new. Hollywood fucking blows and franco too. Never understood any of his popularity.
