Ron is very pro auteur. He likes when an artist can put his stamp on something. So I think it's a little incongruent for him to shit on comic book movie reboots. The Tim Burton, Joel Schumacher, and Chris Nolen versions of Batman are so totally different and indicative of those directors. I think there is a lot of expression in the movies even if they're well trod stories.

Second, Ron is hypocritical in that he's talking to Armand White about how noone cares what people say in these reviews they just want the thumbs up or down. But Ron doesn't care what Armand White says either, he has him on as a curiosity and he's only engaging the review when it props up Ron's previously stated ideas. I know Ron would argue that it isn't his job to debate Armand, he's just giving him a platform, but I think that's a cop out.

I agree that you're working in a more restrictive medium if you're making a comic book movie, but there's no such thing as an original story and like I'm fond of saying a story is less about the plot than anything else it's about, so why split hairs and say comic book movies are unoriginal and therefore beneath anyones talent?

I dont think Ron has Armand on in the same way he had Shirley Phelps Roper on. I think Armand White is an intelligent, interesting person who makes very rational arguments about film, and I believe he truly loves film. I guess the part I find hypocritical is that Ron will say 'yeah totally' when Armand says something he agrees with but wont put his own opinions out there when he disagrees with Armand. I think Armand would have no qualms about doing the point counterpoint thing, and I'd love to see it happen with someone Ron cant shove around in an argument. I guess I felt that in that moment Ron was guilty of the exact same thing they were complaining about on Rotten Tomatos by being too agreeable and surface.
