If you go into a packed movie theater and start killing people, Those are innocent victims.
What kind of person has such a total disregard for human life?
This is compicated but it should be clear that this is an evil despicable act.
Whatever the reason, the act was done to hijack the world's attention.
There are so many issues to discuss here I won't even begin to go into them all.
Except for one,
do certain people strongly identify with characters like Bane and the Joker and what is an artist

When someone is fucked in the head enough to do something like that, trying to find any logic or reason behind their thought process is useless. John Hinkley shot Reagan and others because he supposedly wanted to impress Jodie Foster. For all we know, this guy was trying to impress a girl. None of it matters. It was just a horrific act by someone who is fucked in the head.

The most important issue is that there is nowhere that is safe. There is nothing we can do to prevent this.
We could kill the mentally ill. That would be more effective than gun control.

Crazy link to my Avalanche in hockey and overall hockey reporter that narrowly dodged the shooting just recently in Toronto bc she had a "sick feeling" that made her get out of the area, only to be gunned down a few weeks later.
Now that's fucking creepy and so sad. It has that Final Destination feel too it too, not good.

I absolutely HATE the way the media is covering this story. This incident happened in Colorado and was committed by an obvious nut, but there is really no immediate danger associated with this incident now that the culprit is in custody. I was watching the Chicago FOX affiliate and they rambled on about the incident for 40 minutes between traffic and weather reports without switching topics. They did a man-on-the-street segment asking people waiting to watch the 9 and 10am screenings of "The Dark Knight Rises" why they could take the risk of getting killed to watch the new Batman movie.
What risk?
The only risk of copycat attacks which would, likely, be inspired by the news talking about the incident endlessly and explaining how the attacker carried out the attacks.

why? they found a possible tie in and mentioned it exactly as they knew it at the point? Did they actually link the two or try to push that as their agenda? No, they mentioned something in conversation and George pretty much said, follow up on it and get back to me if it IS anything of substance. from nbc news:
The University of Colorado Medical School said on Friday that the suspected movie theater gunman -- earlier named as 24-year-old James Holmes -- was a medical student who dropped out a month ago, The Associated Press reported.
Officials told NBC News that Holmes was the man who killed at least 12 people at a midnight showing of the new Batman movie in a suburb of Denver.
The gunman, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest and dressed entirely in black, was not on any watch list that would have alerted authorities that he was dangerous, officials said. The incident was not believed to have any connection to international terrorism, they added. Some witnesses also told reporters that the shooter was wearing a gas mask or or goggles.
The car Holmes was driving had Tennessee plates, but police sources told NBC News that they believed he had been living locally. Federal authorities told NBC News that Holmes has no military history.

Changing behaviors and protocols in movie theaters all over the country give FAR TOO MUCH credit & "honor" to the crazy person that committed the original crime. It elevates HIM.
Slightly unrelated: I also hate when schools have vigils (and mass therapy sessions, etc, etc) for a student that has committed suiced. It elevates the act. The attention and the adulation that is heaped on the dead kid is extreeemely appealing to a depressed kid who, prior to these vigils, was probably NOT contemplating suicide.

Theater offers 'perfect killing' zone, expert says
A crowded theater offers an ideal location for a gunman -- particularly one armed with a shotgun -- to target dozens of victims, a weapons and security consultant said Friday.
experts tell CNN the very nature of a large room such as a theater -- where people are seated in rows -- makes moviegoers easy targets, even for an inexperienced shooter.
"If you're shooting in a movie theater, and you're near the exit or a main exit, you've basically got a turkey shoot,"
In this scenario, he said, audience members won't be able to escape -- making themselves lingering targets for an attacker.
A shotgun would do more damage among a tightly packed theater audience because its ammunition comes out of the weapon in a reverse funnel shape and would disperse across a wider area, according to Howard.
so many people's heads are lined up next to each other that if you fire down these rows of people ... one blast is going to kill or seriously injure 10 or 15 people, depending on a number of variables."
and that bullet "may go through two people." Most AK-47-type rifles use 30 or 35 round magazines, he said, and the weapons are not difficult to sneak into a theater under a long coat.

Go "cosplay" in a city park on the weekend.
Or, as everyone else sees it, advertise your virginity.
So all those Raiders fans are virgins. I knew it! And people that go to Medieval Festivals too. And the people that dress up in costume for Halloween too.
But hey.....it don't make you a bad person.
How about they address the sale of semi-automatic weapons? Yea I need that AK-47 to shoot a deer.
I'm just waiting for someone to say that the wacko was mentally ill or something to explain why this happened. Maybe some people are just plain evil.

I think it's illogical to assign any blame -such as it is- on the MOVIE itself.
There's nothing to indicate that the shooter saw or even LIKED that movie. Surely.... he picked the theater because it he knew it would be crowded. And that he would get headlines... and live forever in infamy. But it's wrong to blame the movie. I was rather surprised to hear that Ron went there. That he thought there was some kinda connection between movie violence and real violence.... and that "movies will never be the same" etc.
If that shooter walked into the Superbowl and started firing a gun, FOOTBALL would not be blamed. "Sports" wouldn't be blamed.
Anybody making a link between movies/videogames and what happened at the movie theater is, in my opinion, simply trying (too hard!) to "make sense of this tragedy".

I never got the impression that Ron was blaming the movie, I thought he was saying that the movie would be blamed. Which seems likely, since we're all victims of something, therefore not responsible for what we do.

This. To a normal, rational, intelligent person this wouldnt even be an issue. Problem is most people are morons.
Its already started with people saying how when they were going to see it they kept looking around for "suspicious characters." Im embarrassed for humanity for the amount of people I saw say "Be careful" to friends that were going to see a movie last night.

But Mexico's president, who has repeatedly called on Washington to tighten gun controls to stop weapons flowing from the United States into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, said U.S. weapons policy needed a rethink after the killings.
Tell that to Eric Holder.

F&F gave guns to the cartels via our federal government.
May-hee-co has been a bloodbath way before F&F. They have the most strict gun control laws and tens of thousands of murders have happened.

F&F didnt have cartel members come here, Our ATF agents walked them to the cartels
Why the fuck would Mexico lecture us when they cant get their shit in order. Then again they have the most strict immigration laws but bitch and complain that we attempt to enforce ours.

yes, why would they bitch tied to the very argument you just fucking made and constantly make on f/f!? Tie this to the bloodshed IN MEXICO tied to our arms that you always bring up and HOW DARE THEY?! It's a political statement and they want change if nothing else. Why get offended that they are at least saying something that lines up with cleaning up their bloodshed, even if you simply use it against them when at the bargaining table to get something really accomplished toward that goal.
WRESTLINGFAN

Mexico isnt doing anything to clean their bloodshed. They keep electing corrupt governments over and over. Theres corruption in the police and military as they are working hand in hand with the cartels.
Not to Downplay the killings from F&F however our governments involvement resulted in about 200 killings and is a huge scandal for our gov't.
If there was no F&F Mexico would still be a country littered with tens of thousands of bodies.

this would be an awesome act on their part, I suspect they'd have to do it on the DL though, they can't be seen as lending any credence to the idea that this is in any way the movies fault.

Alleged Colo. movie theater shooter James Holmes was charged with 24 counts of murder today -- 12 counts of first-degree murder and 12 counts of murder without remorse. Prosecutors hit Holmes with dual charges for each death in the mass shooting.
Murder without remorse? I never heard that as charge. Does he have to say he's sorry for them to drop that charge?
