This is not exactly news. Hell, Fez found out about CFA's donations months ago.
It's pretty well known that CFA is a "christian" operated company, that even closes on Sundays so their employees can attend services.
I think the CEO finally got tired of being asked the same question, and finally felt the need to address it directly. I can't really blame him for standing by his convictions, already knowing the backlash it would cause.
Chick-Fil-A has always thrived in the south, and will continue to do so. Hell, probably even more so now.
"Southern Christian" bible-belt type folks on the AU board were immediately congratulating the CEO, and promising to frequent their stores even more often to make up for any boycotts.
I think I might have tried a CFA sammich once in college, but haven't since, so this doesn't really affect my life whatsoever.
But I'm definitely not for mayors deciding that a business can't open because of thier religious beliefs, that in no way affect the way they hire, or serve the community.

A CEO should never put the company they run out there bc they were asked a question. Sure, I also have no issue with a company being run based on it's core values and that of it's ownership, people have to choose to work there. And I also agree politicians should NOT be allowed to implement laws or standards based on one religion, including shit like blue laws in Bergen County or liquor on Sundays bc of any religion. However, the shift of people away form religion is much stronger than those that remain, just those that remain are MUCH more vocal to a fault. And this again is an example of stupidity to me, as they are personal views tied to a public company. Dumb, and even if in the majority in the South it's not a good move.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I think it's a helluva dumb business move.
But, as a consumer, I'm glad to know this about their company from the CEO directly, rather than from some list on a gay website of companies they "think" are "anti gay marriage", based on where and to whom the company has made charitable donations.
I don't know the whole company history, but I don't ever remember seeing a CFA store until I went to Auburn, and it seems like it started in the south, and spread from there, but the bulk of their stores seem to be in "red states".

yes, a ceo can voice his call on someone's personal life and a mayor can't take a counter view or have any linked to their actual party's stance? RIGHT! Got it. You have any issues, never say a peep on anything else even if it ties into your constituency that looks to you standing up for them and their values.
You often do this too, as in nobody can have a say if there is ANYTHING not going perfectly for them, regardless of the tie to the issue or how much they've actually had to do with creating the problems they face in the first place. I guess 1 year in office and all should be perfect right, much less you love to bash Chicago way too much. Wonder why?

Actually that's not really the "original topic" that you gave. You provided 3 sloppy issues and slapped them into one under the guise of an "argument".
Issue 1: CFA Ownership -- Its the owner's right to donate to whoever he wants. Its also the public's right to be outrage and seek action against him. Its actually the perfect example of the free market. Personally, I believe he's showing us the true bigot that he is.
Issue 2: Chicago. -- I don't know enough about the City of Chicago's local laws/rules/ordinances about commercial development/zoning/planning to speak to the issue. I do know that in the world of small government and local control...that it's Chicago's right to set up parameters for what type of business they want in their community. Its also their job to stick to those rules.
Issue: 3 Roseanne Barr -- This is the perfect example of you slapping on a logical fallacy to a discussion to slander the opposing view. The tactic is a lazy fallacy of association and is almost never pertinent to the discussion. As for Roseanne herself, I could care less what she thinks.

But, it all makes sense now.
Chick-fil-A supporters plan appreciation day (http://news.yahoo.com/chick-fil-supporters-plan-appreciation-day-113607762.html)
Supporters of Chick-fil-A are planning to eat at restaurants in the chicken chain as the company continues to be criticized for an executive's comments about gay marriage.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister, declared Wednesday national "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day."
I know we're in a red state here and all, but damn. I'm actually pretty disappointed in her, and some others.
I could give a rat's ass who eats what, where, and how often. Knock yourself out. But doing it just because Hannity or Huckabee told them to, and to "show their support"?

But if government at any level seeks to punish the man it seems to be a violation against free speach , and crosses the line of seperation of church and state. Let the free market resolve this.

If his business supports "the biblical definition of the family unit" and he can "operate on biblical princ...iples", then there shouldn't be any pork on his menus. But there is, and the bible forbids it. So he's picking and choosing whatever fits his personal needs. You don't get to do that with such a bold statement. Publicly, that makes him a hypocrite, and everyone else who went out today to enjoy those delicious sandwiches and waffle fries. The whole situation is pathetic, nor of any importance, but he will make big $$$ counting on American's grasp of primitive tradition!

Christians believe that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament, that after Jesus mankind is under a "Grace" dispensation, the Old Testament was a "Works" dispensation, filled with laws that man was bound to break, thus proving his need for a savior and Grace.
The New Testament is quite clear on being allowed to eat pork, and shell fish. The New Testament is also where the bulk of the anti gay verses come from.

it is, but Christians don't believe they are under Levitical Law anymore, hence, no animal sacrifices.

Leviticus 18:22 is translated: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."
Definitely Old Testament stuff.

according to the new testament, yes. Jesus said he came to release men from the bondage of the Law by fulfilling it. He was, according to Christian beliefs, the final sacrifice. I mean, if you now believe Christians are hipocrytes for not obeying Old Testament law, why haven't you questioned the fact that they don't kill baby lambs and doves?

I'm not saying stupid people don't quote it, I'm telling you why Christians don't still follow all the Laws in the Old Testament, just the ones that are reitterated in the New.
And I'm not even saying they're right. I just hear people saying the word hipocryte a lot who don't realise that there is a break between old and new.

no, he taught that it was divinely inspired and accurate, but that he would fulfill it and that the laws need not be kept.
Basically Christians believe that the two books work together perfectly, think of it this way, the OT teaches that the first people, Adam and Eve, wanted to know how they could please God, he told them and they failed. Then the OT goes thru a long History of people saying "let us try again" and failing. By Jesus time they were offering sacrifices at the temple, and they didn't even do that right, they were supposed to raise the animal themselves so they would feel something when it was killed, but they were just buying them outside the temple. The OT is there as proof to us that we cannot live up to Gods standards, and can't even sacrifice correctly, so God provides the sacrifice and we no longer try to work our way to heaven, we go under grace, not based on what we do, but what God did. No more Levitical law.
this is what I was taught, I do not claim to live by it.

Pretty soon the gubmint is finally going to realize that they should just get out of the "marriage" business all together. You know... separation of church and stuff.
Leave "marriage" as a religious thing all together, and, if anything, recognize legal, contractual "partnerships" for tax purposes, etc.
Grandfather in all the previously recognized "marriages", and start having "partners" file paperwork with the court. No "ceremony". No "bible". No "marriage".
The gays don't want anything to do with religion anyway. They just want to be legally recognized as "partners", and want all the same rights that go with it.
Then, maybe, you'll be able to get your waffle fries in a more timely manner, and enjoy them guilt free.

I don't care how you classify a license for anything. There should be equal access to people of all colors, creeds, and orientations.
Quite frankly this "debate" mirrors the mixed race marriage debate in the 50s/60s. It's fucking embarrassing that we are even debating this shit.

My point was... as long as you're continuing to call it a "marriage", the majority in this country are sticking by their religious definition of the term, and will continue to fight against it.
Remove the stupid label already, and give everyone equal opportunities and equal rights under the law.
