Ron painted himself into a corner but Fez isn't capable of going after it. Fez says "who does this help to kill this guy?"

Ron says "Who does it help to let him live?"

But the two values aren't equal because federally we say murder is wrong, Ron would have to prove that executing him benefits society, which I dont think he can do.

I woudl absolutely challenge Ron on the idea that there are intellectual arguments that support the death penalty. It's the exact opposite of that, it's all about emotion and retribution, purely abstract ideas.

now that i think about it, i havent really heard any reports that support the death penalty. however, i understand that i am not anywhere near being an expert in this subject nor am i up to date on all of the literature. i just think that if there WAS a report showing the benefits of killing inmates, it would have been screamed from the heavens by death penatly proponents.

The money argument is the closest I think you can get to an intellectual pro death penalty argument, but if we're going to apply that logic then why do we have life in prison at all, why dont we execute all of those people?

I think the high costs have to do with the appeals/legal process. But consider the costs to build the prisons and to staff them with guards. Then factor in the costs for treating guards and other prisoners who are assaulted.

Watch an episode of Lockup on MSNBC and tell me that we wouldn't be better off by killing these worthless criminals. Death is better than being locked in a cramped cell and subject to violence for the rest of your life.
