There are openly gay people in office. Most famous one is Barney Frank. While Catholic church numbers are dwindling and on Sunday mornings churches are half empty.

I think we will have a woman President before any of the other 2. While gays have been accepted more, theres still a lot of people who wont vote for someone based on that. Atheists will have a hard time getting elected because while church attendance is down especially for the Catholics theres still a huge majority of people that believe in god. Plus the bible belt in the deep south is still in existence. In my opinion we will see a woman elected president before the other 2

What if she were lesbian? Would that be considered a tie?

My first guess would be woman. However, blacks were once as hated as gays and atheists, yet they still got the vote before women did. If not a woman, than probably an atheist.

True. I never thought a Muslim would be in the oval office either.

honestly, some of the people in this country are so ignorant that they probably would rather vote for a gay man than have some woman running the country. Do NOT underestimate the amount of sexism in this country.

As for athiests, yea no chance. All you have to do is look at how much time tim tebow gets on tv to know that religion is still WAYYYY too big an influence on the way things go in the US

Hillary Clinton, maybe. But I think the political system in the US is so good at making a woman look like psycho whore harpies and women in the US ate so willing to bury a famous female figure... It is the greatest long shot. Second longest shot.

Atheists are so misunderstood by the religious it its impossible to get elected in this era.

A gay male, log cabin Republican is the most likely to get elected, frankly.

Republican woman: least likely.

Gay man would out perform straight woman.

Atheist... No, too many dumb Christians think that atheists literally substitute Darwin for God.

What about a gaytheist?

I don't know about atheists, but don't think that'd be the issue people here are making it out to be. As for woman vs gay man, it's much more common to have female governors, so why not president?

Republican woman: least likely.

That's just silly. A moderate republican female would win over independents like nobody's business.

However, the GOP wouldn't fund it...

we've already had
a gay president...
Buchanan

as long as he's portrayed as
"a confirmed bachelor"
and not openly gay or effeminate
gay is OK

I think of the three, atheist is least likely. There are still too many people who think atheists are creepy and immoral.

What do you mean ”over independents?” When in the modern era had an unaffiliated Democrat or Republican won the presidency?

"Win over independents".

In other words, win the independent vote.

What he said.

And plenty of democratic women would cross the aisle to vote for another woman just because she's a woman, but very few republican women would.

There are a lot of people out there who think atheists are just maniacs. It's mostly because they think it's impossible for there to be any morality without God, that the only thing that keeps people from going apeshit crazy is the thought they could end up going to Hell.

This is one of the issues that I take with the right. Now they are up in arms because God isnt mentioned in the Dems platform for the convention. I think they mentioned practicing faith

I'd say that about 80% of the people in that arena this week believe in God. I can bet the Yankees not winning the world series for the next 10 years that Obama will mention God at the end of his speech.

I'm not so sure about that. Depends on the type of woman who was running. Would a bunch of democratic women cross over party lines to vote for someone like Sarah Palin?

Females like their identity politics but they aren't crazy!

Take a Condi Rice-type or a Jennifer Granholm-type (I know she's a dem, but an experienced legislator/executive branch) and you'd have a real shot.

Dont blame men. I know a ton of women that would never vote for a woman president. If they cant get women to vote for them, how do they expect to win an election? Its the basic rule that overall, women just do not like other women.

Right job, right person. Avoid the lunatics and look for the perception (reality is something else) of moderation and you've a shot.
