Two weeks into this new show and it's really good.

I love a good apocalyptic story and this one has showed promise. Basically, all the electricity on the planet has stopped. No power. So the world falls into disarray. Governments collapse. People live off the land.

But a few people know why the power went out and even have the ability to use it.

So far the show has done a great job showing an overgrown and wild United States 15 years after the blackout. The characters are pretty standard as of now, but they have a great boost with Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito and Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell.

The show has had some great fight scenes too.

JJ Abrams produced, John Faverau directed the excellent pilot episode.

Nice touch here too when they went to Chicago:

Ha, didn't see that the cubs won the championship when they went by Wrigley.

Enjoyed the first episode, but wasn't blown away. Loved the way the pilot ended and they're getting into what happened so quickly.

Hope the second episode doesn't disappoint. I'll watch it sometime the next few days. Was worried there was no discussion on here after a lot of anticipation leading up to the pilot.

That's because it wasn't actually in the episode.

The whole "2012 World Champs" thing was in the original promo, but for some reason was cut from the actual pilot.

Oh, I'm saddened by that, but alternately happy I didn't miss it.

Also saddened furtherman would lie to me like that. :(

I guessed I just missed that in the pilot, as it was only a quick scene. Oh well. I would never lie to you sailor!

I thought it was good. It's developing the characters and just giving a little taste of what the big mystery is about, without opening up to any huge questions.

Just following this to what I think is a logical conclusion but wouldn't large swathes of the country and the world be uninhabitable from the meltdowns of civilian nuclear reactors?

Only saw one episode. It focused on a small handful of folk so you don't see anything outside of where they are. And if there were meltdowns, they'd know not to be near there.

pretty much we've seen the lil town where the main characters live then they went to Chicago briefly and a few flashbacks to before it all went down

outside of following the daughters story and perspective the only big picture thing we've been clued into is that America doesn't exist anymore and at least in the immediate area of where they are near Chicago is ruled by Monroe and called Monrovia

The hot daughter is really annoying.

She's been improving week to week. Her acting was miles above where she was in the pilot.

This past episode was really great, and it gave an emotional punch that could have been a longer storyline before the days of viewers losing their patience with serialized programs.

The story of Maggie walking the country, looking for a way across the Atlantic was a sad one, but it was whittled down to just one episode. The flashbacks - which seem to be a regular pliot device now - were done perfectly. I thought her character was a great story, which ended up being cut too short.

That was a surprising death there. Yeah, spoiler alerts. Whatevs. And why did the mom turn herself in to the uncle? I don't think he had anything on her, just seemed odd.

Not sure. He may have told her to turn herself in, or he would hurt her family... maybe to use her as a barganing chip to get his brother to tell him what happened to the power.. but then why doesn't he just go after his brother directly? Not sure, but I like the glimpses into how he started the militia.

Ok, thought I missed something. It seems glaring enough that they'll have to address it, and probably soon. I don't like how the bad guy turned against torture in one episode's time. Last week he didn't torture because they weren't animals, and a week later he's down for it.

That was a strange scene, considering we see the torturer lay out his tools, never see any torture, and then the next scene with the Mom - she looks fine. Doesn't even look like she was bothered at all.

The fall season finale was last night. No more until March 2013.

BUT... this show turned out to be a bonafide hit for NBC. I really enjoyed it and it's one of the new shows that I'm watching that didn't get cancelled, so at least I have something to look forward too.

Besides the cheezy Led Zepplin product placement in two week ago's episdoe, I thought the storyline and characters really strengthened over the season. I also give props to this show really conveying a sense of an America torn apart and broken down.

The pendant plotline was smartly revealted and moved along - no huge secrets left to revel, except that underground bunker we saw a couple episodes back - but the characters have kept me entertained too much to have that be a problem.

I also love the Rachel character (Juliet from Lost). Her "Now you need me" moment 2 episodes back was a highlight. They certainly don't skim on the violence, and the flashbacks have become pivotal character moments instead of drawn-out stories.

Looking forward to its return.

One thing that really bothered me, when they went thru the tunnel to Philadelphia two weeks ago - the one guy turns out to be a Monroe operative and kills everyone of the rebels...and none of the main four. I mean, we know they're going to be ok, but that was just silly. They should kill off google or the other chick.

This week, Miles looks like he might reconcile with Monroe, but goes into a soliloquy about how Miles is dead to him...instead of just killing him.

Oh, yeah, spoiler.

my biggest issue is how quickly everyone is able to travel and how easily they find each other.

obviously they're not gonna travel in real-time, but just from chicago to philly is 255 hours walking (google maps), and that's assuming there are still maps / street signs to point the way.

other than that, nothing too great, but i'm still watching.

I wish this show would have been on HBO - instead of friendly NBC. Same with that dinosaur show on Fox last year.

I think both have great potential but being on network TV kills it for me.

Just sayin
