The voter ID laws will also help to fuck obama. He's up by 8 or 9 points in PA but you dont need an ID to get polled.

Dexter?

realmenhatelife

Dexter?

Homeland. Dexter doesn't appeal to me at all. Also, once a show gets to the point where people who used to love it are now bitching about it I feel like I can never hop on board. So that's Dexter, Weeds, The Office. Ironically if I start a series I find it very hard to jump off no matter how shitty it gets, ie Entourage, Oz, Arliss, Lost.

Oh yeah, not me. I'm moving and switching cable companies so I got a deal on premium channels for the first 6 months. It will be long enough to catch it on demand. I had Showtime for a little bit this year and I actually hated the channel in general, so I imagine I'll drop it after 6 months.

Yeah, I've tried that, but I guess the tile's too smooth to provide a good hold. And I'm not gonna stab myself, that would be too messy and I'd feel guilty about making a big mess for someone to clean up. I don't need to die with all that guilt on me.

Dexter is worth the watch. Some seasons are better than others, but the last two seasons were really, really well done as was the first. The Jimmy Smits season was off, but still better than 90% of whats on TV.

So the bassist for the Melvins called Billy Joe Armstrong a weasel and said in response to Armstrongs claim "I'm not justin beiber" with "yes you are." I cant agree more, but it would've have more impact if it was from one of the founding members of The Melvins.

And you cant argue that the word fag is ever not homophobic and should be above offensiveness. It's an offensive word, it's used to offend even in relationships where it's accepted to offend eachother (like stand up comedy, or friends busting balls.) The word's entire power is derrived from its' offensiveness. You cant expect other people to subscribe to the same social agreement as you and your friends.

yeah, you can. It's generational, people from mine and Dell's generation KNOW WHAT WE MEANT when we said that word, and others growing up, you don't get to assign the meaning you want, or blame us for what you feel.

I dont think the younger generation doesn't know what they mean or are all homophobic when they say fag either.

I agree that one doesn't get to assign the meaning IE Johnny calls Bobby a fag and they laugh about it because they're just busting balls, Fezzie cant tell Johnny he's being homophobic to Bobby. But, conversely, Johnny and Bobby cant tell Fezzie that they aren't being homophobic to Fezzie by saying fag to eachother, even though they didn't say it to Fezzie. It's all about perception more than intention. Perception cant ever be right or wrong because it's an act completely divorced from truth. Perception can only change. Maybe Johnny and Bobby become friends with Fezzie and when they say fag Fezzie no longer perceives that as homophobic. Maybe Johnny and Bobby dont feel comfortable saying fag anymore now that they're friends with Fezzie, because their perception of the word has changed. Maybe they dont like Fezzie so they say it more often because he told them he doesnt like it, maybe Fezzie stops caring.

I think the real problem is that we all feel like we're right, that's human nature, but there's a lot less that's right and wrong in the world then we think.

deliciousV
09-27-2012, 10:19 AM

Ah, but you would never call a woman a pussy and expect her to thank you for it. It simultaneously belittles the guy and objectifies the woman.

I wouldn't expect anybody to thank me for calling them that. And again, you can't blanket statement something into fact, my wife doesn't feel objectified by any of those words, and will often be the first to say somebody is acting like a pussy. As I said earlier, it's all generational. I have now doubt that in the next few generations the word Fag will become much like the "N word", people like me, who never assigned sexuality to it will die off, and the generations that follow will have always believed it was a sexual slur and therefore stop using it. Hell, I really don't use it much at all now. My only complaint is the blanket statements about what I meant when I said it in my youth. I know what I meant.

One, I'm not offended by it. Two, that was obviously just a joke, onionskin.

They're all too dumb to realize it's an insult to them.

I'm gonna pinch you in a very painful way.

I agree, you know exactly what you mean, but I'm adding that noone else can be expected to believe you or suspend their own perception of what you say. If you say fag, which I think it is perfectly reasonable to offend someone, it doesn't make the offended person "wrong" by being offended. Nor do I think you're required to apologize even if you did mean to offend someone.

And we are mixing contexts here too. You're talking about saying fag to someone presumably who is your friend and peer. Fez is generally talking about this in a different context where the word is actually broadcasted to an audience like twitter, a movie, a standup club, or is being used by peers and underlings in his place of work. Fez would be completely unrealistic to be offended by the use of the word in a private setting like your 4th of july BBQ.

we're pretty close to agreeing, I wouldn't yell out fag in a crowded public place. But I might call someone I know well one. I think you underestimate Fez, he certainly would be offended to learn that I called my cousin a fag for dropping the ball and running away during a game of smear the queer 30 years ago.
And I didn't call anyone a fag at my BBQ, buncha pussies woulda got offended.

You're right, he probably would, but that's why he's crazy.

The thing that Fez wont give up is that context is a thing that exists. The thing that Ron wont give up is that context is not objective.

Bravo.
Well said.
