I thought all in all the
opening ceremony was very
nice. I was touched by the
ceremony with the flag from
the towers.

I thought it was cool...an excellent choice having the Hockey Team light the torch.

Holy cow, could it have been longer?! And why the heck was Steven Speilberg one of the dudes carring the Olympic flag?
The 1980 team was a great choice, though the torch is pretty sucking looking.
I'm looking forward to the new event "The Skeleton", can you imagine going down that head first?
Bring on the Olympic size hockey rinks! I love it!

I've gotta tell you, Bob Costas pisses me off more each year. He used to be an excellent sportscaster but every year he gets more sanctimonious, more self-important. He spouts out pretentious nonsense to make himself sound the arbiter of all things good and wholesome in sport. He is becoming a caricature of himself.
And Katie Couric? Don't get me started.
To quote a very wise man from the board...

The best part of course is when the delegates representing the USA got the biggest pop I ever heard! It gave my chills, the only thing that was missing was Kurt Angle's theme playing in the background.

I agree with Tall_James 100%. I would've enjoyed the opening ceremonies a zillion times more if Bob Costas and Katie F'n Couric had kept their stupid yaps shut and let us viewers WATCH the stuff. And they're walking all over poor Jim McKay, a veteran sportscaster who (even though he's in the Confused-Old-Grandpa mode nowadays) has more wisdom and experience in his little finger than those two talking heads combined.
I wish they had an option that let you turn the commentary audio off and watch and hear the games as you would if you were there.
Though the funniest part of the night came during the athletes parading into the stadium, and they said "And there's Latvia, who have fought for many years to show up on TV instead of being relegated to commercial oblivion..." (two seconds of the Latvian athletes, finally showing up on camera) "...more to come in Salt Lake City after this."
Poor Latvia!
