the fire department did the bullhorn "evacuate" in our area before Isabelle, then went door-to-door telling us to evacuate...I asked the fireman at our door if he would evacuate in my position and he said no

most evacuations are because emergency vehicles cannot get to you...they are not because you are less safe

it really freaked my wife and kids out and we had a very energetic discussion...I said the storms 500 miles in diameter, and we couldn't get away from it at that point

those that did leave ended up in motels without power and no place to get a meal or gas...glad we stayed put
