Could somebody explain this shit to me.
Are women really into this bullshit, or men for that matter?

You know how women like to go to the bathroom together? They do it culturally, too.

The screenwriter doing the adaptation of this mess says that the movie will be rated NC-17.

I seriously doubt that, in the end, it's going out as NC-17 -- or, at least, that there wouldn't be an R rated version as well -- but it would be sort of cool if it did. I've always wanted the NC-17 rating to gain more mainstream acceptance, and not be the automatic kiss of death to a movie it is, and this movie is high-profile enough to do that.

Even if it's rated NC-17, though, I"ll just stay home and keep watching far better porn.

All I know is because of this book I've had to give out a lot more spankings.

I've wondered about this too. Would it be a good idea for a man to read this to try understand it (much like in the movie "Patton", where Patton reads Rommel's book to learn his tactics)?

the popularity of the books suggest that the excitement of experiencing something dangerous and unpredictable, is far more commonplace than one would expect.

Isn't the overall arc of the romance though that ubermensch Grey is unsatisfied despite being rich, intelligent and physically perfect and the one thing that unlocks his heartboner is this chick? That's the real fantasy.

Women, though, have it tough in this department, and there are multiple factors making them normalize being physically supplicant to men. Cus maybe you've got some daddy shit going on and you're turned on being dominated that way. Or maybe you've got some guilt issues and want to be punished. And maybe, ancestrally, you understand that power and virility will give you strong offspring so you're attracted to a man that exhibits those traits. Or maybe you try to hyper femenize yourself and cultivate your soft, wily features. Or maybe that beauty myth has been working on you and you're trying to fulfill your half of the gender bargain that advertising sells. Or maybe you find power in your ability to reduce men to their base animalism and internalize that as the truest expression of your desirability.

Ah, so if I was rich, intelligent, physically perfect, vulnerable...and with a hint of danger, women would fantasize about me. I don't think there's too much there that can help me with women.

Women love a fixer-upper. That's for goddamn sure.

I've popped into this thread to get a clandestine view of the female perspective.

Shit gets randomly popular. Remember Dan brown? Remember tulip mania? Madness of crowds.

Specifically, I know a bunch of girls who've read it and see him as some dreamy super man and they find the bdsm-lite dirty and titilating. I know more who've read it as a joke. Those have said it's complete crap that's fun to mock (think the literary equivalent of Rebecca Black). It comes across as written by an 8th grader in literary style, writing ability and character/story depth. They say there are some hot scenes, but mostly it's typical romance dreck.

One particular part that brought howls was that this hot 20-something never-been-kissed virgin wants to make herself less appealing to the ruthless billionaire so she puts her hair up in pigtails to make herself look younger! Really, just a moronic book in general.

I haven't read them, and don't plan to, but here's the thing--ladies like to fantasize about things that they'd never actually enjoy in real life. The lesson for the fellas out there is to just be open to stuff their lady might want to try--but only with a man they trust.

all interesting, all interelated, and some to some degree (whether that's 5% or 95%) somewhat universal and true. The problem is that the subconscious will always be a mystery.

The deck is stacked, so to say. There is a biological disadvantage for a woman trying to dominate a man, therefore innumerable psychological conditions develop that also support it.

Then there is the notion of the "normal" relationship, and whether that is enough. Is being normal, stale and boring?

Shouldn't you make your norm include sexual fulfillment?

Sexual fufillment is possible without the use of these mind games.
