What is the deal with him? I went from never hearing about him to seeing his name everywhere.
He was a stud prospect who had a much better spring training than most expected. Iglesias was touted more last year. Well, for fielding skills anyway.

in fairness, that trade cleared alot of money. Its not so much to me about th trade, but what they do after. If they get aggressive and make good moves then its fine. If they are just tryin to squeak by to make money and not spend any, then its different.
the biggest problem seems more that they dont give a shit. They dont give a shit about the team other than to use it to better their own positions, or shit on people they want to make look bad. I hate absentee owners. Id rather have a guy like fuckin Dolan who at least goes out and tries to do shit, no matter how bad he might be at doing shit, than have a guy who doesnt even give a fuck

And when they do, it's either to force the hiring of a manager whom everyone knew would be a disaster, or to leak dirt about managers/players via the Boston Globe.

have you watched him pitch? He isnt really that good. He has good stuff but he cant locate it at all. At 23, he should have at least figured out by now how to throw a 4 seam fastball for a strike. Its scary to see a guy give up 2 runs in 4.2 innings and throw 109 pitches.
Id take a chance on him if Im boston because he has good stuff, but there are warning signs there.
If I was the Mets, I would, very quickly, send him and ike davis down to florida for giancarlo Stanton. The mets have good pitching, and they have 2 more A prospects in the minors, so wheeler isnt really a huge need. OF is, and you guys could definately parlay wheeler with another guy or 2 into Stanton and get someone to protect david wright.
Eric Young, Murphy, Wright and then Stanton. No matter who is hitting 5-8, you will win your share of games just on the backs of those 4 and your good pitching.
Which means it will NEVER happen cause the Mets are retarded

Who do you think they could trade Elsbury to ? Any team that is out of contention that has an impact player that you want, isn't going to want a player for just 2 months.
I wouldn't mind them trading him for a stud prospect if they could find a contender who will take him though.

they have been tryin to deal Stanton all yer. They dont want to pay him and he wants to leave. Maybe you cant put in Ike Davis (though he has lit it up the past couple days) but you have other prospects. I think if you give them wheeler it wont take much more to get it done.

im not looking for an impact player. The only "star" players you could get back for him are bums like Andre Ethier.
But you could probably get a shit load of future pieces. Maybe a high level pitching and outfield prospect, something. The guy is gone this offseason for nothing but a couple draft picks so at least turn him into something.

I think the farm system is pretty good as is and it got a boost with the Gonzo/Crawford/Beckett deal last year (they got Allen Webster and Rubby de la Rosa). They need some position players as backup.
I'd rather bring up some kids from AAA to bolster the pitching rather than make some big deals.

ok so maybe you deal him for a couple good infield prospects. We could probably use a future 1st basemen, or other future parts. I think we have enough in the OF or could get a servicable part to finish the year that we dont NEED to take back an OF.
Though if you could get one, you might be smart to do so. I wonder if you could get Young from the Mets or another speed guy like that from someone else, plus a prospect for Els

come on, bro. if MLB has shown us anything, its that no one in boston does roids. Even Manny didnt do them til he went to LA, obviously. Only people on the west coast, Texas, and New York do steroids, duh
That means he's just a psychopath who loves smacking women around (from a 2009 Boston Globe article):
A massively muscular man, Remy is unapologetic about having used steroids and proud of his knowledge of weightlifting. He can be seen striking bodybuilding poses in photos posted on his girlfriend’s Facebook page.
Remy has faced several assault charges, most recently in 2005, when he beat up a previous girlfriend. He acknowledges having made mistakes in his life, but said he would never take the legal risk of selling steroids.

It only took 30 years.
This is my problem with ownership: they're so big on "tradition" yet they have nothing to honor the players from the early championship teams like Cy Young, Tris Speaker, Smokey Joe Wood and, of course, Babe Ruth. And don't get me started on that moronic policy about retiring numbers....

Dan Shaughnessy's piece on why Sox shouldn't extend Ortiz
The Red Sox would be out of their minds to give David Ortiz a contract extension. This has nothing to do with lifetime achievement, hitting .688 to win the World Series, Ortiz being runner-up for Sportsman of the Year, or his budding status as the Face of Baseball. It’s not about Papi’s popularity. It’s not about his skills as a motivational speaker. It’s none of that. The fact is, Ortiz is under contract for next season and he’ll be 39 at the end of the deal. Ortiz has a contract. This is no time for wallet-measuring or the offensive “respect” card, which is usually followed by an athlete talking about feeding his family. It’s simply bad business to commit more cash to Ortiz when you have the leverage. Jon Lester is going into the final year of his contract. He’s the guy the Sox should be talking about extending. He’s young. There’s a risk if he plays it out. The only risk of not extending Papi would be his ability to go get another deal at the end of next season (a deal that would take him into his 40s), or the widely-held notion that Ortiz will feel underpaid and disrespected if he’s making less money than Mike Napoli next season. Too bad. Ortiz was happy with his two-year deal when he signed it last year. The Sox would be foolish to hand out a lifetime achievement parachute or cave to emotional extortion. No hard feelings. And no new deal.
I would tend to agree with that.
This way, he can sign a 3 year deal with the Yankees after this season.

I'd say this is valid. My part of CT is more Yankee country since it's closer to NY, AJ's part is deeper into New England so they go for the Sox

No way: I'm from New Haven County. That's solid Yankee territory.
Hartford is roughly the dividing line for all NY/Boston sports teams. Plus, there are lot of Mets fans in WF's neck of the woods.

i havent paid much attention to baseball. I know the sox lost salty and got AJ. And I know they lost elsbury and stephen drew.
Did they do anything else of note to replace these guys or do they have kids from the farm system lined up for it?

Farm system guys.
Stephen Drew is still unsigned -- possibly to return but Boegarts probably has SS locked up.
They also signed Grady Sizemore to back up Jackie Jr. in CF. They also signed some pitchers to shore up the bullpen: Chris Capuano, Burke Badenhop, Edward Mujica, Jose Millares.
David Ortiz extended for one year. (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/source-david-ortiz-red-sox-agree-to-extension?ymd=20140323&content_id=69972446&vkey=news_mlb)
