In music news an all drummer supergroup has formed called Drumgasm, I cant wait to hear that.
It's the guy from Soundgarden/Pearl Jam, Janet Weiss from Sleater Kinney/Wild Flag, and the guy from Hella/Death Grips, which are both somewhat experimental.
It's going to be loud and amazing.

Here's the secret. It's not that there were a lot of great bands in the 90s, it's that record companies saw they could monetize independant bands and then started signing and promoting them. They were there before, they were there after, but the financial model made them extra visible at that point. Truth bomb.

I had a completely different concert experience when I saw them. A few years ago they did a minor league baseball park tour with LIVE and Collective Soul, we were in Ohio at the time so went to the Dayton Dragons park and saw them, I was just a casual fan at that point, but their live show caused me to buy a couple of albums.
Of course I didn't have to compare them with the likes of Maroon 5.

Ron really understates the success of bands like The Pixies though. They weren't U2 but they were on all the tastemaker's radars. They didn't get rich but when Frank Black and The Breeders put out albums they drew lots of attention because they were in the Pixies, and those were both financially successful projects.

I guess they can't be "on" every night, when we saw them there had been a rain delay before they came on, they opened with Rain King and pretty much killed it from there. Strong set all around

A few years back (3-4 minimum) they started playing Long December multiple times per day, every day in the month of December. Not sure why. But it was pretty funny how at first they were into it, then eventually grew to despise it.

It'll be a beard war. And, yea I couldn't imagine producing something that gets that scrutinized under that much time constraint. Tough show with some really good artists once the first four or five get the boot. I just can't figure out why Navarro with all the garbage ink he has displayed has anything to do with the show.

Navarro is the bridge for the mainstream viewer, I guess. I happened upon season 2 by accident and really enjoyed it, but I sure as hell didn't know who Oliver Peck and the other guy were beforehand. I stopped on it because I remembered hearing about Dave Navarro's tattoo show.
But yeah he's a bad example of good ink. The one tattoo of his that I really like is "I have one but not by choice" on his shoulder, because that's just a really neat story.

I think the season 1 winner got away with that the whole time. Whatever style they wanted them to ink, he just did it in black and grey. There was a noticable emphasis on that not happening the following season.

this is pretty much how I feel, the show has evolved, it's no longer all about wrestling and other TV shows, Ron has gotten older and doesn't seem to want to do a constantly silly show, "you know who" has nothing to offer in the realm of music, film, or books.
