So what did you guys think of the movie?

I have mixed feelings.

non spoiler section:
I liked the serious tone. The writer (David Goyer) did some really interesting things to the basic origin story that we've all seen several times before. This was NOT a simple remake of the Richard Donner movies.... in fact... they really should have just made the nemesis an all-original character rather than calling him "Zod". All the scenes Smallville were truly excellent.... some really good performances there.
The score was distractingly bad.
This movie has a MAJOR flaw though- there's just too much destruction.
Scene after scene... in every location they go to... shit is constantly blowing up, being demolished, being destroyed, and exploding. It's exhausting.

I was really happy to see that Superman never even tries to hide his secret identity from Lois. It always bothered me that an award winning investigative journalist couldn't figure out that Clark and Supes were one and the same. They nixed all that. Very smart.

I also liked that Zod wasn't "evil", but rather... he was simply doing the job he was assigned to do before he was even born. His character actually made sense... he had genuine motives.... which is something that is usually missing from these hero movies

The movie was very close to being great, but they ruined it with endless scenes of video-gamey destruction that seemingly had no consequences. They destroyed more buildings and cars in this movie that all three Transformers movies combined.

I honestly think the sequel is gonna rock. Zack Snyder and David Goyer simply tried to give us too much bang for the buck in this one.

Wasnt in to it. Michael Shannons caps are hard to listen to him speaking through. Agree on the explosions/destruction. And would 1 "kneel" have been too much to ask? Especially when they were 1on1.

I think they did a good job retelling the story through flashbacks. I did like that aspect. Also, i wonder how many Michael Kelly scenes wound up on the cutting room floor. He was essentially an extra
