im having a little bit of a fun time bothering officemate this morning. as some of you may already know, she plays her radio really *really* loud at her desk (im at the point where im wondering if she is suffering for some kind of hearing loss). well it annoys me to no end and i lower her radio almost every time she steps away from her desk.

however, i am getting revenge today. my text message and email notification sound happens to be a dalek yelling out "EXTERMINATE!" it sounds very similar to the one said by this dalek at about the 10 sec mark.

i forgot to silence my phone when i came in today (which i am usually very good about). then i got a email, and the dalek startled the hell out of her. it was all i could do not to laugh in her face. she then went in to some tirade about it being the voice of the devil and that i am in to evil things and blah blah blah *static noise filled my ears* (she's one of those church lady baptists that praise on sunday and so forth and then are all judgy judgersons the rest of the time :dry:)

then our "supervisor" walked by, who happens to be a doctor who fan. he heard the notification and said "thats great! where did you get that!" since she's such a kiss ass, she shut up right quick. as i showed him, i laughed at her and told him how she thought it was the devil, ha ha how silly! its a just a robot from a tv show! :innocent: he began to tell her a bit about the show, and she politely said it wasnt her thing, death glaring at me when he wasnt looking. i'm smiling the whole time, loving how she has to eat that shit.

i raised the phone volume to 11. :smoke:

They do get health insurance after they're discharged, right? Does it include mental health stuff? I know people have said they are either too proud or unaware of whats available to them. Maybe we're not trained well enough to handle PTSD and maybe we could better promote what is available to encourage it's taken better advantage of.

The job thing is a sticky one, because it's not like they're coming back to a thriving job market. Chances are a dude from Altus Oklahoma joined the army because there were no jobs, and then he's just going to return to the same thing 5 years older than everyone. Not everyone gets the education going into the army to be able to get a useable skill post army. What do you do about that? I know they offer the GI Bill.

Ron wants to act like talking money is callous but where is it gonna come from? It's not like we treat people who derrive their living from the government, either through work or through subsidy, all that well either.

Along with what Misti said, they could make it easier for veterans to get the assistance they are eligible for. My dad has a buddy that served in Vietnam, and without my parents help, he never would have gotten the medical care, mental health care, disability payments and housing assistance he was entitled to. All those things have allowed him to live an okay life, but if he had been on his own he probably would have died homeless decades ago.

The problem with this is that Tricare, which is the medical plan for active duty personnel, also is a shitty system. It would have to be a mutual fix.

If it's the same Tricare (BCBS) that I have, I agree it is shitty... it cost me a fortune for coverage and with my health problems, I have met the catastrophic out-of-pocket limit before September of the last four years!

Had a 20 something intern work for me a few years back who was a vet (was a driver in Iraq for a colonel). He said he got medical, college tuition, and 1800 a month towards rent allowing him to live on the upper west side. He was well take care of.

Thanks. I think one thing thats pretty obvious is that we need something to facilitate and encourage vets to take advantage of the stuff thats out there already. So maybe thats part of my consternation, not understanding the actual process of receiving your benefits.

You can make the argument PED's are just a training advancement. If they were administered by doctors with the intent of maximizing performance while trying to minimize health risks.

what astounds me more about this is that ron is acting like they issue these amber and silver alerts the way the weather service has been issuing alerts every day.

today's was the first amber alert that i have ever gotten on my cell (ive had this phone for 2 years). i have never received a silver alert by phone, but ive seen a once notice on the LED billboards on the highway. im guessing NYC's amber alert criteria are more stringent than other places, but to be inconvenieced by one text message in a long while is rediculous.

The only time the heat bothers me is at night. If it's too hot to sleep I get annoyed. But no matter how hot or humid it is I always do stuff outside, I actually like riding in 100 degree heat. I only just got AC this year.

That said I do much prefer heat to humidity, and would take 90 dry over 80 wet for sure.
