Ron just entirely misunderstood the dimentia story while accusing Hicks of not understanding the dimentia story.

its keeping your brain active that helps to stave off the onset of dementia.
my great aunt (who cant read and only sign her name b/c she had to go right to work) has alzheimer's and has no interest in doing any of the mental exercises her doctors assign. my grandmother does puzzles and is an avid reader (and all this with only a 2nd grade education b/c she had to work). she has always been even before my great aunt was diagnosed. her doctors say that because she reads and keeps her mind active, that has helped in her keeping it together.

my father-in-law was very educated, a tour guide at two museums and an extremely avid reader and puzzle solver...he, two of his brothers, a sister and their father all died of Alzheimer's
while keeping your mind active will delay and possibly prevent many forms of dementia, Alzheimer's has a very strong hereditary component that is hard to buck...most people don't know that all dementia is not Alzheimer's

absolutely. im in no way suggesting that it is a cure for alzheimer's (thought if it were, that would help take a load off my shoulders, as i might inherit it as well). what my grandmother told me was that her doctor suggested that had tití been more mentally active, the onset could have been delayed a bit longer.

Great intro/outro song... Reel Big Fish "Suckers".
I kinda glazed over during the interview itself so I have no idea how that might tie into their project.

Since the show started on the subject, I'll say this here. I have to leave soon and pick up the Mother in law and take her to my wife's office, from there my wife has to take her to her new home at an assisted living facility, and break the news to her that she has to stay there. Her Alzheimer's has progressed to the point where there's really no choice, but that won't make it any easier on my wife, who is the true grownup in her family, her twin sister stuck her with this responsibility and refuses to go.

that absolutely sucks for your wife...not having sibling support worsens the entire thing and proves you don't get to pick your family (most would select differently)

That sucks. It makes it so much easier when the siblings work together, and it will drive a hell of a wedge when they dont. My mom and her sister did everything when my grandmother got alzheimers really bad, and now do the same thing for my grandfather who has become more and more infirm since she died. The other sister, who was always on the outs, shirks everything she can and is virtually persona non grata to them, now. Like after my grandfather dies there's going to be a fight about money and I imagine that will be the last I ever hear about my black sheep aunt again.

Aw buddy, I'm sorry. My Dad had to do that with his Mom and it broke his heart. He had sworn he'd never put her in a home, and to have to go back on that was rough on him. She'll get the care she needs, and that will be better for everyone, but I know it's really hard.

they made the decision together, and her sister worked out the V.A. paperwork, but yesterday drew the line at the emotional part. My wife knows her best and says that she will no doubt blame my wife to their mother for putting her there, and paint herself the good daughter.
Seems futile though, the mother inlaw asked us 10 times yesterday where he car is, my wife drove her here in it and it was right out front, she's not going to remember any blame game. Oddly enough she remembers every song she learned when she was a child and forced into the Hitler youth. I'm going to miss getting her to sing them in Sam's Club.

I don't know if he was, they were just using it as a third member of the trilogy with Harry/Sally and you've got mail.
I've never seen it, because it looks like shit. And saying you "actually" like it is just about the definition of damning with faint praise.

I guess it would work as a trilogy because it is Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan pursuing a relationship that meets much adversity.
I would tell you its a good movie but it's also a kind of movie that's very particular, and if you dont like that kind of movie you wont like it. It's very silly and contrived. It's meant to be like an old timey adventure story where all this unrealistic stuff keeps happening. I'm not sure what movie I could compare it to so you could gauge.
There are some very good turns by Lloyd Bridges, Abe Vigoda, Otis whats his name, That guy whose name might not be Schebetta and Meg Ryan plays three different characters.
My brother-in-law who went to today's Unmast just emailed me that Fez has lost a lot of weight. Good for Fez.
