Reddit Discovers O&A. All hell breaks loose

OK, long story short:

Opie's been posting a lot of old bits to his FB page and youtube channel. We all remember Opie smashing the homeless guy's cake from a walkover between K-Rock and XM back in 2007.

Opie posted the video on his channel on Friday with some background, explaining why he did it, and justifying what he did with giving the homeless guy a couple hundred bucks (for what was probably a 10 dollar cake)

Reddit (you know, home of pics of teen girls, dead children, bestiality, etc) got a hold of the video and suddenly turned into the morality police. They flipped the fuck out, the video has gone viral and Opie's page is just chock-full of hate right now.

So never mind the fact that:

1) This happened six years ago
2) Opie was telling the background of what happened
3) Even after the cake stomp, Andrew continued to be featured on the O&A show. (i.e. he went back for more)

Reddit is being self-righteous and I wonder what the reaction will be, especially since O&A are on vacation and can't answer for themselves. It will be very telling to see how SXM reacts, especially given this was six years ago.

I didn't actually stay in it long enough to hear about her cake campaign. What I think is going on is we've set up a system in which people have an unfiltered media stream and decide that everything they feel is deserving of publication. So I think she's pissed, I know I wasn't psyched at the time, but ofcourse this all seems kindof silly so far after the fact. Opie and everyone on the show does take advantage of that same media stream though, so it's not like they can say she's out of place. But people do bitch on the internet, what are you gonna do?


What's a head scratcher for me is he did it to be shocking and then people are shocked and that's like a surprise or inappropriate reaction? There's this weird thing in comics where they really cant stand not being liked, their need of approval is that strong.



Oh, on an appropriate side note when I was young I remember my grandmother telling me "Don't ever give homeless people money (compassionate one, she was) they're just gonna spend it on junk!" And in my little kid brain I thought she meant like cake and candy instead of real food.

This could end bad for the ones trying to campaign. It reminds me of a local story here a while back. They did the same with pizza. It ended with the donor being killed. Some psycho must have felt short changed and stabbed the caregivers. If I remember right it was a young lady like the one in the video posted.

Since I publicly denounced the video in a vlog, I have been the recipient of online bullying, harassment and been called a "slacktivist." Because I want to do something positive with this negative situation and because I am someone who follows words with action (check here for proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYTwMV7ZISo), I want to raise money to send cake to a homeless shelter in a city of my choice. The homeless man in Opie & Anthony's video, Andrew, has since passed away, so I am doing this gesture in his memory. The more money I raise, the more cakes I will send.
