I always thought Carrey was incredibly talented and hasn't had enough real opportunities to show his range. He was the best thing in both Kickass 2 and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone which were both edgy roles but supporting turns. Clearly he has shied away from doing the big goofy comedy for a while. I hope he gets something as substantial as Man on the Moon again.

I'm sure he didn't return his check to the producers, or at least accept less money. Part of the reason of hiring someone like Carrey is for him to go out and promote the film which increases the box-office.

I'm curious about a couple of aspects about this. He made the statement that he wouldn't promote the film. I had no idea he would be in it, or even that the film was coming out soon, until he made the announcement about not promoting it. So, he basically promoted it. Also, if he's genuine about his decision, I'm surprised by the studio's actions. Not only have I not seen anything about them complaining about him not promoting it, they don't even mention his name when THEY are promoting it. Has a movie studio ever been that respectful to the talent? Or... Maybe they just decided it would be vied as a dick-ish move, in today's social media influenced world.

If you watch the the last video Paulo posted above where the director addresses this issue, it seems like they are treating Carrey like the crazy uncle who you can't take seriously but is fun to have around.
