We live in a world full of sadness. Whenever I think of AIDS I think of the sad inevitability of HIV.

But there is another side of aids. Those helpful kind. That help you with homework, or help you cook dinner, or teach you about the right way to avoid getting AIDS.

So my friends, what are your thoughts on AIDS? When you first hear the acronym do you think Freddy Mercury sadness, or wonderful person helpfulness?

First person to quote Family Guy or Team America gets banned for a year (not really).

When has it not? ::hiccup::

It always has, which is why it's the first thing I think of when someone mentions AIDS.

Are you implying that AIDS causes HIV? If so, you're a bit confused.

I think what ruined it was the guy who owned the company. From what I remember, when asked why he didn't change the name after AIDS came out, he said he had the name first. They should change the name of the disease. Not exactly a good business decision.

we have a case where the only parent is in the final stages of aids. the parent has been absolutely ravaged by the disease. i thought the parent was middle aged when i was introduced to the case a few years ago. in the year thats past, the parent looks 70 now.

the parent has temporary custody of the child and we are keeping a *very* close eye on them. in any other circumstance, the child would have been removed. however, since we know that there are literally only weeks left (at most), we (the judge and lawyers inc.) are letting them have their time together.

you cant imagine how horrible it gets at the end until you actually see it play out and watch people die from it in real time. the helpful type of person/people you are taking about, keithy, are "aides". big difference. perhaps its because of how much of my life this disease has been taking up lately, but im not finding any of this funny.

i'm going to stick up for keithy here but first i'd like to offer my sympathy to those the disease affects in a personal way,the kid was just starting a thread,something this board needs more of,i used to post on a board called FBA which i don't know was something dumb but done.

i don't let the drunk thread bother me even tho recently i've had some big loses in my life due to people drinking both presently and in the past

keithy,keep starting new threads

a circle of friends and friends of friends were virtually wiped out in the late 80s - early nineties. The older guys were hit hard and pretty much died in a matter of months after diagnosis. The younger guys held out with the help of AZT and other drugs and in the end it gave them a few more years but they too are gone now. The only ones left are the ones who never contracted in the first place.

Dude is OCCASIONALLY funny. But then again, I'm sure even Hitler told a couple of good Helen Keller jokes.

I could have gone for Pollock jokes, but I didn't.

*sigh* I can't believe I'm saying this, but DS makes a very good point. I've always griped about the stupid Hot Chick thread, because I've seen what those kinds of things do to the psyche of women, and I am presently trying to convince a 10 year old child that her hips and belly aren't fat, but DS is right, I have to stop taking it so personally. Dang it.

I get you Misti, and man tough story, but it's just a thread and surely not poking fun at anyone in particular with the awful disease. In fact, many people actually cope this way but I don get why it might tick you off being what you are in the middle of. I'd just suggest you keep clear of something like this right now as dspy stated. You know Keithy is a good kid and just loves to stimulate conversation and joking with crazy tie ins and I fully believe he thinks this way completely naturally. It's pretty interesting and whacky all in one. I know for sure he isn't poking fun at anyone touched by this terrible thing.
