I could say that about unions but about 20 years ago. HR has taken over the reins to do what's right and unions are not needed anymore. The laws are strict on my department.


I understand that the important gains made by unions are in the past, but would they stay if the labor force didn't maintain collective bargaining power? I seriously doubt it.

Those laws that HR inforces are on the books because of unions. If the labor force went back to every man for himself, we would be back to 12 hour work days, 6 or 7 day work weeks, and no benefits. Because someone out of work would accept that.

How, unless you're salaried? And requirements for being paid a salary vs hourly wages have gotten even more stringent in recent years.
