Along those same lines... I don't think that the fluster and breathiness and "oh my god!"-ness of every acceptance speech by every female at every awards show is genuine. I think they're forcing it.
I truly believe that when they practice their speech (going all the way back to when they were little kids), they practice that breathy, "no don't cut me off!", "oh my god oh my god", holding back the tears, thing. I even think they all practice that thing where the hold they award with two hands in front of their chest... with their elbows pointing way out to each side. And they're always looking up. Always. They never don't look at the balcony.
Those speeches are all far too similar (in every way). I think it's rehearsed.

Women did not do that 40 years ago. But they ALL do it now.


Anyway... back to Leno... that tearful goodbye is EXPECTED. If he didn't do it... he'd take a lot of heat... and he knows it.

I can honestly say, I've never met a single person who actually LIKED Jay Leno.
I know that's a hack, easy, comment to make but... I'm being serious. It's been DECADES of him being hated and/or disliked by everyone who has ever expressed an opinion about him.

It's strange.
Howard Stern has detractors and supporters. So does, say, Andrew Dice Clay. Same goes for Lady Gaga. Whatever. Entertainers are always battling "haters", but they also have their supporters. With Jay... I've never heard of a single supporter. I've never heard anybody go to bat for the guy. Additionally... I don't think the guy really even has a point of view, or comic voice. Meaning... you could make a joke at the office and it might "sound like something Jerry Seinfeld would say". Or you could write a song it might "sound like something Paul McCartney could've written". But... with there is no Jay Leno version of that. (I'm referring to the CONTENT, not the sound of his voice)
There is no "that was so Jay Leno!"

The guy sucks.

He is to comedy what Starbucks is to interior design. It's just..... there. Nobody hates it. But nobody is moved by it.

I was surprised to hear Ron make those comments. He usually praises Leno for, many years ago, being a brilliant comedian.

Leno was pretty good in the very beginning but once he got his big shot, he went for the lowest common denominator and it worked well for him ratings wise. His relationship with Letterman was fucked up. Letterman gave him tons of breaks early on when Letterman had a show and Leno didn't but then Leno stabbed him in the back later (though I think anyone would have done it but Leno played goody two shoes).
The late night jungle is a complete mess now so I'd say he's better off getting the fuck out.
