should he coddle him? Maybe keep carrying dead weight?
The ball is in Fez's hand, he can step up and earn it, or not. Blaming Ron for Fez becoming a basket case who has vowed to be funny, yet unoffensive, is unfair, in my opinion.

No, he should not coddle him.
No, he should not keep carrying dead weight.
He has done that to Herculean limits already.
I do not blame Ron for Fez's downfall at all.
I'm just saying, in my humble opinion, that if Fez made an honest effort to step and earn his place, Ron would do his best to undermine him. We've heard it before.
Doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I don't have access to Rawl Dawg, so I won't be hearing the payoff to this bit. If there is one. With this show's history, I wouldn't be surprised if the service terminated before Fez's evaluation date.

I think that when Fez has a good day, Ron is his biggest cheer leader, I think that on those occasions that we hear Ron interrupt Fez talking by taking a call, Fez has already been well into a half assed day, and I suspect there is body language we don't see that makes Ron behave like a big meany.
I probably commiserate with Ron too much, my last couple of years at the Post Office were spent on a sorting belt with two seemingly healthy women who had doctors restrictions against doing 90% of the kind of work required for the positions they had bid on, so I did the work of 3 bids while they slinked off, saying "it's outside my restrictions" , the union protected them. After my 4th elbow surgery I became quite bitter, my last conversation with a union official came after I told the two lazy bitches that they were killing me, he told me he would push management to fire me if I kept it up. After my 5th surgery I finally accepted a medical retirement, I now live off of a 4th of what I was making.
If you can't do the work you're getting paid for, get the fuck out of the way and quit making others work harder to cover for you. Fez has a chance, it's not anybody elses job to cover for him, or make it easy.

(I was a mail handler on nights, 10:30 to 7, the job was dumping bags of bundled magazines onto a belt and sorting them by zip, by throwing them into spread out large hampers, divided by 3 it's not so bad, but when two of the three are sleeping in the locker room it's like pitching 3 games a night, the elbows go)

I think it goes a little past "tough guy" to fire someone you have described as "family", that being said, the passive aggression is no better. It's somewhat understandable, but it's not helpful.

The first hour of the show yesterday was annoying to listen to. I hate "complaint" radio. O&A and Stern do it a lot, where they complain about everything around them.

I don't care that your bumpers are off, or the wrong song played or management didn't give you something you wanted. I've heard Ron complain about the reality show feel of the show, but that's what his complaints yesterday felt like to me.

No balls to end it? Ron once pointed out that they have NEVER fired a producer - all of the producers they've had have left "on their own" - but sometimes after a long process of Ron showing his discontent. I felt the complaints about the flubbed show opening music were interesting, because - other than the long-teased revelation about the Xmas gift, there was really nothing new about the show. So - when the opener was flubbed, that messed up the ONLY thing that would have been strikingly different. The opener even had boring football talk - that was something I was hoping was going away for good with the new show. But NOOOOOOOOOOO. Ron is in danger of adopting Chuck Berry's old act - always knocking the band onstage. But in Chuck's case, the band was just a local pick-up band. These are people he's been working with for years. I'm starting to agree with Spoon - Ron may be culpable for not having the balls to end it. Not just with Fez, but with Chris, too.

It's just so annoying. Fez is trying again, and Ron is having none of it. I can't totally blame him, though.

But when they were in that jazz studio for two days, Fez was trying to be old Fez and Ron just shut him down immediately. He's just so mad someone didn't do the dirty work for him that he's just taking it out on Fez more.

Even the beginning of Tuesday's show. Ron goes into his normal, "I don't know what day of the week it is" opening, Fez jokingly corrects him, then Ron makes fun of Fez for being serious the rest of the show.

At least Shelby is there to add a bit of newness to the show.

Serious question for you (I'm sincerely not looking for a fight)
Do you really think Fez is "trying"?
Meaning... if you took yesterday's show, and a show from... say... 5 months ago... and played those two shows for somebody... would that somebody notice any improvement in Fez? Would they think one was better than the other (in terms of Fez's contributions)?

I don't see any differences. (and I fucking LOVE the guy!)
YES..... there are some subtle things happening here and there. He's obviously putting an extra bit of energy into his "HEY EVERYBODY!" greeting, and he's burning a few extra calories here and there trying to laugh a little louder.
But overall.... I think he's the same.

Not being a dick here but, please share with me; what are you hearing that I am not hearing??

I hope this doesn't come across like I'm looking for an argument. I'm really not. Just looking for you to expand a bit more on your statement.

I'll take the bait, then.

I definitely saw a difference yesterday.

He was involved with the guests.

5 months ago, that break about his 42 piece on the IBang would have resulted in angry, screaming, crying, then finally silent Fez. He did get angry yesterday, but turned it back funny. It turned into an entertaining break, and then he stayed involved the rest of the show.

And I am defintiely not a "the show can do no wrong" type of fan.

Oh, he was not trying on yesterday's show. I agree.

My point was with the jazz studio shows. He was coming out trying to sound like the old Fez. Or he tries to be obscure or weird with Ron, and Ron just shuts him down.

But Wednesday's show was what Fez is now. Trying to shoehorn a bit into a conversation, and getting mad when it actually SPURRED A CONVERSATION. He was mad that they didn't let him just ramble off some truth bombs.

WhaleFontanelle

It's just so annoying. Fez is trying again, and Ron is having none of it.

When Ron interrupts Fez to make a comment or go in a different direction, that doesn't mean it's time for Fez to stop talking as a radio talk show host. That's an opportunity for Fez to talk about something else and try to take the lead from Ron.

Sometimes conversations have interruptions or go in tangents, but it's up to Fez to get back to his point and bring it all back together. Sometimes that means he has to take the lead in changing the topics and going to the phones.

I don't see any of it as a nefarious act by Ron -- he is just saying what comes to mind. Also Fez can interrupt Ron too and I don't think anyone here would see it as passive aggressive behavior by Fez. Sometimes Ron goes to the phones when Fez is trying to get some words out. Why can't Fez do the same to Ron?

spoon
