After going on a spending spree this past winter, Yanks start tonight against Houston. CC Slimmed down, Pineda had a decent spring training and we will see if Tanaka can handle MLB batters as he had a decent spring as well.

Play Ball!!!!

Anyone want Eduardo Nunez? Yanks just released him.

This may be a long shot prediction. Maybe they will sign Drew

Looks like you're going to have to come up with a new nickname for CC . Can't call him Fatbathia

He'll be back by the end of the year. And he's not fucking skinny.

Yes, sign Drew so the Sox can get a draft pick for him at least.

nice outing for cc ... ah.. it's early

but - Suzyn is still there on WFAN.

Sterling is no better.

I'm dreading the corny new catchphrases for Beltran Ellsbury and McCann

Kay sucks too.

yah, figuring they are facing that imposing Astro cast of anti-all stars and HUGE payroll

Fowler (28 years old, 668 mlb games)
Grossman (24, 64)
Castro (26, 265)
Altuve (23, 357)
Carter (27, 255)
Krauss (26, 52)
Dominguez (24, 201)
Presley (28, 232)
Villar (22, 59)

* The TEAM has a grand total 2,153 games under their belt…and a hefty $44.5 million payroll in contrast to $203.8 million (~ a fifth)

Jeter 2603 games
Arod 2568
Beltran 2065
Ichiro 2061
Soriano 1909

they should be embarrassed

fucking pathetic

let's give the millionaire more toys and gifts bc he's sooo good to his fans, charity and even that kid who caught his 3k ball. at least Mo is a first class guy and did it first. I soooo hope he hits a light .150 all year, sucks as usually in the field but stays healthy and the yanks almost have no choice but to leg this year out with him. THAT would be fucking fantastic!

WRESTLINGFAN
04-03-2014, 04:25 AM
I think it was Chipper Jones who 1st started the trend of this farewell tour and all these gifts etc when someone went to a ballpark for the last time as a player.

While being a Yankee fan, and believe that Jeter is a 1st round HoF inductee, He's not in the same category as Ruth , DiMaggio or players of that type. Sure it's a different game today however Jeter was never a dominant player.

He's going to eat up all this attention now that it's his final year.

If anything these farewell tours won't happen that much with free agency and big name players changing teams via trade or FA

spoon
04-03-2014, 06:35 AM
Yah, most good players will end up on the yanks, laa/d soon enough. So
most tours will continue to be like the last two. And chippers was NOTHING like these last two. Every team is trying to one up each other with thoughtful gufts tied into their area and tons of fucking annoying fanfare. Fuck Jeter.

A.J.
04-03-2014, 06:51 AM
I think the NBA started the farewell tour thing: I recall Kareem, Dr. J., Larry and Magic having something like that.

Personally, I don't mind it. But the Braves fans are the worst for having bailed on their beloved Chipper Jones after that controversial infield fly rule call when they hurled beer bottles on the field. You couldn't stay to give the guy one final standing O?

spoon
04-03-2014, 06:55 AM
Good for them. I'd like to think they were saying fuck u to another standing o too.

Michael Kay needs to stop equating what Tanaka did in Japan to MLB. Fucking Tuffy Rhodes was an alltime slugger there. Im pretty sure 70% of the guys on High School team couldve played pro ball there.

I agree. With the amount of guys coming in here and doing well, like Darvish, The Red Sox closer, and others, it's getting to the point where the argument of Japan is an infiror league, especially for pitching, is growing old. They don't seem to have problems translating their ability here.

You can even make the point of the hitters there being tougher to deal with because of discipline and contact. They make contact a hell of a lot more there. Not saying they are better by any stretch, just tougher to pitch to.

spoon
04-05-2014, 09:23 AM
good point on the pitching…as they are still ahead of the hitters there, yet it's getting closer. some factors like closer fences enhance power stats out there, but most of those type things are known and easily accounted for. like you said, their hitters are very patient at the plate, usually have short/compact swings and will take what the pitcher is giving them…and if they are now facing the likes of Yu and Tanaka like guys, they sure as heck are getting exposed to solid pitching too.

Very nice rebound for RA.

Solid performance. I was excited to see Pineda look so good.

With Montero being a mess, this deal looks like it's going to be pretty good.

The pitching has to be very good this year for the Yanks to have a shot.

Despite the new guys, with Tex breaking down, this offense will have trouble scoring.

WRESTLINGFAN
04-05-2014, 12:27 PM
Hopefully Pineda will be able to progress. He had a decent spring training, Those shoulder injuries are a bitch. Pryor & Johann were never the same.

spoon
04-05-2014, 01:22 PM
I said the spanks won that trade from the start...especially now that we know montero is linked to peds...much less benefitted from the confines of spank stadium. Trades involving cheats should elicit compensiation picks. THAT would surely make teams take policing it seriously.

I was driving a lot last night and listened to the Yankees/Cubs game on the radio. Honestly, I feel sorry for Yankees fans. You'll have to wait really long to have a good radio broadcast team. Waldman and Sterling are awful homers, and Sterling's home run calls are irritating and embarrassing.

They put a positive Yankees spin on everything, it's terrible.

Pictures of his palm & wrist were all over the 'net after his last start. Thinking you're going to get away with it again in a big rivalry/all-eyes-on-you kind of game shows a dangerously low intelligence level. What an ass.

A.J.
04-24-2014, 05:27 AM
Now spoon, I think you're overreacting a bit. The first time it was simply "dirt" on his wrist. This time the pine tar was used for "safety reasons":

"It was a really cold night and in the first inning I (couldn't) feel the ball," Pineda said. "I don't want to like hit anybody so I decided to use it."

I think this is very thoughtful because the last thing you'd ever expect to see in a Sox-Yanks matchup is someone getting drilled by a pitch.
