I was looking up the history of Israel and I read that the Husseins harbor especially anti-Semitic feelings. I was wondering 2 things; Is Saddam related to the late King of Jordan? If King Hussein is so anti-Israel, why was their such an outpouring of sympathy when he died?

"May God bless us in this trial, comfort us, strengthen our resolve, and make our justice as terrible and certain as His."

NYDRAGON - I don't know if they are related and a quick search did not show any obvious ties. It's entirely possible that "Hussein" is a common Arabic name.
The King of Jordon was very much anti-Israel and joined with Egypt and Syria in attacking Israel in 1967 (the Six Day War.) By war's end, Israel had captured half of Jordan's land including the West Bank.
Hussein was certainly anti-israel and jews in belief, but he was the most moderate and peace oriented ruler of the Arabic Countries surrounding Israel. He ruled for 46 years. He was seen as a reformer who tried to fuse a traditional Islamic state with modern democratic principles.
Shortly after the war,
Palestinian guerrillas were organized to form terrorist groups to attack Israel. Hussein recognized this would not be in the best interest of his country and
he cracked down on these palestinian terrorists in a monthlong series of battles that became known as Black September.
ln 1994, he signed a peace treaty with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. After Rabin's assassination and the election of relative hard-liner Benjamin Netanyahu's election as Israeli prime minister, Hussein continued to be an influential and calming force in the peace process.
In 1997, when a Jordanian soldier massacred seven Israeli schoolgirls, King Hussein expressed outrage and offered his condolences to the victims' families.
He overcame his personal prejudices and hatereds and acted in the best interest of his country and the region - very rare qualities in a leader!
