Communication is essential. Don't just talk about your problems or your day, listen to her (or him).

If you truly love someon you'll put their interests on the same level as yours. This does not mean always giving in, or never taking a stance for something you want. Love yourself, love your partner and be the best person you can be.

BTW, flowers and unexpected gifts are nice, but far too many people use them instead of talking and caring ALL of the time. You don't need a valentines day to tell your partner that you love them. You should do it every day (at least!)

If you listen to what your partner says and try to help them with what troubles them, the relatioship has a high probability of succeeding.

Yes flowers are a nice touch but instead listen to what she likes instead. Be more observant. For example I dated a girl who liked teddy bears so instead of flowers I would bring her a bear from where ever I traveled to. Worked better than jsut the standard flowers.
It tells her you do pay attention to her and know what she likes. goes a long way...........
