Hey guys, great to be here, I just had to join tonight because I couldn't believe my ears. I was driving home at 2 am, a little bit groggy, and I flipped to 102.7 to hear Ron and Fez(I swore I heard them at this hour on a Sunday once before) They weren't there, but Don and Mike were. Before I could change the station, I heard the distinct warble of Andre the Giant, as they were talking about Eastern European NBA players. The impression morphed in and out of a straight Andre and a Eastern European voice, but there were definate Andre references and sound bits from the Princess Bride. This isn't exactly like doing Jack Nicholson, R and F were the first I've ever heard do the impression on the radio. Seems fishier than Fulton Street that these two yahoos would coincidentally corrupt it for themselves. Did anyone hear this then or before. It was from the Friday(2/15/02) Don and Mike show.

I've always hated when Howard mentioned it too, so I"m aware it may be a faux paus. And in further full disclosure, I didn't hear the snake references. However, like I said, it seems awfully fishy that they would just happen to begin using this impression on the heels of Ron and Fez. Maybe they've been doing it for 20 years(I haven't heard all of those years) but I doubt it.

Much as I hate to give them any credit, Don and Mike have been doing the Andre stuff for a while.

Of course, Mike's impression is nowhere near as good or as funny as Fez's.

Oh, and I will continue to scream this from the highest mountaintop - Don and Mike are NOT Ron and Fez's friends. I don't know how anyone in DC can even claim that, considered how raped R&F are here in Washington.

and if anyone was listening this afternoon--i was in my car and the music radio sucked--whatever company don and mike are for aren't doing ratings for them cause they said something like they aren't paying for it so they won't get the ratings...

and so people started calling up saying they were stealing stuff from others and they sucked and then don brought up how they used to do the 4 hour club and hand out cards and ron and fez now do they same thing blah blah blah..

Being that this topic has been brought up, and I've heard all of the incidents pretaining to it, I'll share my knowledge.

I have heard when Don and Mike did the Andre the Giant bit. Yes it sounded quite familar, and No there were no references to any snakes.

I heard about the four hour club vs big ass card thing as well. Don and Mike are nimrods first of all being that the big ass card offers so much more, even when it was in it's early stages.

Also, if anyone heard, Don and Mike have this soundbit where it is the exact same intro that Ron and Fez have, with the cow and chicken song, but with, "Ron", and "Fez", covering "Cow" and "chicken". Also at the end, it says, "Don and Mike.com". To top it off, Don was quoted saying, "Sorry Ron and Fez for takin' that one". I'm not sure if anyone else heard that epidose of Don and Mike, or even remember it. I do remember that it aired around the time that Ron and Fez moved to middays.

Also, if you listened to Don and Mike even a couple of times last year, you'd hear all the times that they made fun of Ron and Fez. Mike put on a fake new york accent to imitate Ron, and Mike kept saying "Hey!", in his gay voice, (not like he doesn't already sound gay).

Those are the facts, and elements of the situation. Don and Mike are two old farts who think that they can move around and shit on Ron and Fez and get away with it. Screw them. They've stolen a bit, and made fun of my two favorite guys in radio. Just don't listen to the show, you'll be doing yourself, and the station, a great justice.

I firmly believe that Don is obsessed with Ron and Fez.

I don't think he understands or comprehends how R&F can be so much better than his crappy show. Then again, he's nothing more than a morning zoo idiot who thought he could do "shock jock radio", so it's obvious he doesn't know much of anything.

well he was talking to a caller and said..most people don't know that are new listeners but we used to have a 4 hour club where we sent out cards with numbers on them..you don't see us calling up ron and fez whining that they stole that from us..what's the point..there is no point in doing that

it was something ot the effect of that..they were just pissed cause all the calls they were getting were from people calling them out on their stolen bits from numerous shows

and just a side note..i only listen with i'm bored with the rest of the radio and i happen to be at work or in the car

You all are way to overreacting everyone steals bits on the radio people are playing the same radio games with a new spin on them that they did in the 60's and 70's---Don and Mike used to play clips from Letterman when he was in radio doing the same thing that many other stations repeat now.
And as far as marketing of a show goes that has nothing to do with success, i would say the sucess of Don and Mike being #1 for over 16 years in many markets at 3 different time slots should tell you something about the success they have. And how can you say having similar or even the same sound bite is stealing, the people playing it on the show are stealing from the people who made the sound bite, but no one complains about that.
You guys need to stop getting so stuck on the fact don and mike took the old ron and fez time slot, but the fact is if ron and fez had #'s like Don and Mike they wouldnt have been switched.

With that being said, i listen to Ron and Fez here in D.C. from 11:30 till 2 in the morning every night on my drive home from work. All i can say in response to either show is parts of Don and Mike are tedious as well as parts of Ron and Fez, but each show is definetly enjoyable on its own merits. And Don and Mike are right they had the 4 hour club back in the early 90's then went away from it and bought it back last summer about 9 months ago. So hate the show if you must but to hate it because of the time slot it took is ridiculous. I wish Ron and Fez were on live here in D.C. but such is life. But let me ask you would O and A or ron and fez come here to D.C. to do shows like don and mike do?

Let me drop some knowledge on the so called, "Knowledged one".

First of all, the big ass card, four hour club dispute is just ridiculous. There's no reason to argue, they're not the same. The big ass card added on benefits for those who had one, while the four hour club was a postcard that you sent in to Don and Mike which later on becae their "toilet tissue".

Don and Mike purposely stole that sound bit, inspired by the Cow and Chicken introduction, and Don even followed it by admitting it.

No not all the radio games are the same thing with a different twist, or a jist more of flavor. Some copy, and come make their own games. Look at Rocko: He takes all of Opie and Anthony's bits and give them suck ass names and trys to put it out that he and Dave thought of em.

We're still not addressing the issue that Don and Mike are infatuated with the great show that is, "Ron and Fez". And why shouldn't they be? Ron and Fez are radio geniuses, and professionals in their trade. There is not one show that I haven't enjoyed, or that I haven't hurt my sides to while I laughed histericaly to their spur of the moment type antics, and radio humor. Don and Mike made fun of Ron and Fez in the past, stole a soundbite, and got pissy because Ron and Fez had something that only came in least camparison with they're crappy four hour club.

As for Ron and Fez's numbers, you don't know what you're talking about. Even if Ron and Fez's numbers aren't all that great,(which I can't see why their numbers shouldn't be excellent by their great talent), they're still better than Don and Mike's ratings in New York. No one in New York likes Don and Mike ass whipe! Get that through your head. The only reason why Ron and Fez are moved so frequently, is because of the fact that they do so well at any time slot. If WNEW management see that one time slot isn't doing as well as another, and they need to balane things out, they call on Ron and Fez to pull the timeslot's "ass", out of the fire.

Let me make it clear on how much better Ron and Fez are to Don and Mike, and other dumb ass shows on the radio today. They're unique, and original, and most of all, they're funny. Because of their talent and great ideas, others have ripped them off, made fun of them in strife, and made asses of themselves in the process. Don't ever, EVER, talk about Ron and Fez's numbers, or you'll get the true statistics and be made an ass just like you're radio heros, Don and Mike.

Now to sleepyeyeds comments:
First I agree that the 4 hour and big ass cards are completely different i was only stating that don and mike had it first contrary to what was posted prior to me.
Second the game comparison was to show the similarities in shows like i said people are still doing bits that Letterman did on Radio in Indiana, and like i said arent Ron and Fez and Don and Mike just stealing Sound Bites from someone elses creation meaning no matter who puts it on its not theirs to begin with.
I'm guessing that your reference to the ratings does not take into account the two times that a show with Ron Bennington has been cancelled.
And like i said because they dont do great in N.Y. but are #1 in D.C., #1 in Sacramento, #1 in Las Vegas, the station in Seattle that has them now has increased listenership at their time slot by 360% and these are facts that cant be disputed.
And now your going to say Don and Mike are infatuated with Ron and Fez, that makes sense guys who have been on Radio twice as long as Ron and Fez are going to be infatuated with them, o.k.

And by talent do u mean Al Dukes...give me a break...the show has no guests worth mentioning and for a show that loves wrestling so much how come they never have wrestlers on like Don and Mike....hmmmm is that because more people will listen to Don and Mike i think so
And honestly making fun of Al Dukes for a good portion of the show each and every night. Or the making fun of Paul O's wife every week he is on gets run into the ground for 45 minutes which is simply ridiculous.

A few things I'd like to say here:

Ron and Fez get shit ratings here in D.C. because a) there's NO advertising for the show. And I'm not talking about print advertising or billboards or any of that, I'm saying that on the WJFK station itself, if you hear ONE R&F promo during the 20 hours that they are not on the air on a weekday, you're lucky. You'll hear a thousand D&M promos every hour, but not one single R&F one. b) they're on the graveyard shift here, 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. (Well, actually 2:30, because the fuckers at WJFK cut the show apart), so only insomniacs and late-night workers listen to it. c) R&F get a poor lead-in. I like the Sports Junkies, but they don't get spectacular ratings, and they have a totally different audience than R&F.

As for the Big Ass / 4 hour club mess, I'll just point this out - while D&M may have had their little "club" first, it's a promotion they have not done for YEARS (and I know, because I live in D.C.). ONLY after the Big Ass cards became big hits, that was when D&M decided to restart their own thing.

I definitely agree that Ron and Fez would benefit if the station would change their bumpers to
"Howard Stern all morning, Don and Mike middays, Opie and Anthony afternoons, the sports junkies at night, Ron and Fez late night, and the washington Redskins.

But until that happens the only advertising they will get is the 3 or 4 sound clips they get a day and word off mouth. I wish they would run their weekly best off at a better time on weekends to get people listening.

As for the ratings it sounds like all of the shows (wnew) did bad for the last book (according to don and mike and opie and anthony).

Every radio show steals from each other. In the past all of these guys were on competing stations and now with syndication Infinity has bought most of the good ones and has them in their stable.

Howard, Don and Mike, Opie and Anthony, and Ron and Fez.

Just to set the record straight Howard was doing this format before all of these guys. So don't go crying about who stole what. They all steal.

First of all, Howard was NOT doing this format before all of these guys. A guy from Chicago named Steve Dahl was the Originator of this kind of talk format.

But, did he talk straight for 4-5 hours (comedy). Did he get multiple syndications for a morning show (major markets) not on one giant package deal like westwood one.

Steve Dahl is based out of Chicago. Don Geronimo used to work with Steve when he was working in Chicago. He often says that he has used Steve's talk format.

Steve was a part of a talk show in Chicago that was on WLS 890AM. It was called the Steve & Gary Show (Steve Dahl, Gary Meier) They eventually broke up and now Steve has his own show (on the station where O&A are on tape delay) and Gary has a show on WLS with a guy named Roe Conn.

Steve was doing this stuff way before Stern and any other tool that thinks they are the innovator of this style. Compare The Old Steve & Gary show against O&A, D&M, R&F, Stern & Imus and it would STILL blow them away. I'm not saying that those shows suck, because I love R&F, D&M, and O&A, but arguing about who started it all and who is better is pointless when you don't have your historical facts straight.

If he is so scary talented why isn't a major player in the major markets. Is his show syndicated to other major markets. (NY, LA, Philly, DC, Boston).

I think the whole point to this thread is yes these guys may borrow ideas knowingly or unknowingly. It is very hard to have a totally original show. Right now I think Ron and Fez is the best of the bunch. I wish they would have less of Joe Poo and Al but I like the way the have a great deal of audience participation.
