Looks like he didn't make it...I work for the same company and it's a little wierd seeing his name in the Outlook Address Book...
Do you feel these reporters are doing the right thing, putting themselves in these situations?
I know the story needs to be told but I would not want to take the risk with my own life...

His wife is 6 months pregnant with their first child. :-(
I thought he might have gotten out alive, but sadly ... he didn't.
Being a reporter was his dream probably ... and he died for his dream.

Yes. The reporters that put themselves in the line of fire are cracking stories that the world needs to hear.
I believe that we need to find, and execute his captors.
The terrorist scum that kidnapped him reportedly sent a video tape of the execution. In the video Pearl is conducting an interview, when suddenly a figure from behind comes from behind him and slits his throat .
Our country can's sit back and let these terrorist hide in Pakistan and still attack our citizens.

Islamabad, Aug 1 (PTI) In a major catch, Pakistani authorities today nabbed a top militant suspected of beheading the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002.
Rao Shakir, a suspected member of banned Sunni militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, was arrested from Bhara Kahu on the outskirts of the federal capital late last night, police said.
The militant is believed by the police to be closely linked to al-Qaeda and Taliban groups and their commanders.
Pearl was abducted from Karachi in 2002 while doing a story on militant funding. His remains were later found in a grave on outskirts of the port city.
Shakir is also linked to several terrorist strikes, including a suicide attack on a bus of a spy agency, the suicide bombing of the Marriott Hotel last year and an attack in Rawalpindi.
Officials said police had been hunting for Shakir for a long time. (http://ptinews.com/news/207087_Militant-accused-of-killing-Daniel-Pearl-nabbed-in-Pak)

I wonder if Mrs. Pearl would choose death or life in jail for the savages that beheaded her husband. (not that it'll matter much as they'll surely be executed)

life in prison seems like a stupid concept to me
waste of time, money, resources
like when they give a guy multiple life sentences like he could ever serve them or life plus 99 yrs like he could die, come back to life and serve another 99, or he gets 167 yrs like he'd live that long

The death penalty thing is something I can't wrap my mind around. While I feel like in most cases these animals deserve death I believe that all people are entitled to the chance to repent. Is it right to kill someone for killing someone? Or is it equally as barberic?

there shouldnt even be a debate on that
if you killed someone you deserve to die
go through the appeals to make sure that this guy is the guy but when alls said and done he or she should no longer be living on this earth just like their victim
why should we waste time and money on so called rehabilitation and let this criminal get a 2nd chance when the victim is dead and doesnt get a 2nd chance

No exceptions?
yes there are obvious exceptions like a woman being raped and kills her attacker and shit like that
what im saying is if someone is convicted in court for murder the penalty should be whatever amount of years the judge or jury decides or death
i dont believe there should be a life in prison option, theres no point
if your in jail to be rehabilitated but have no chance of ever getting out whats the point of rehabilitation ??

What about manslaughter?
What about negligent homicide?
For every basically clearcut case of intentional homicide to the nth degree like Daniel Pearl's horrible death there's at least thousands of other instances where intent and motive and premeditation are difficult to determine at best.

Not to mention that there's not always definitive proof.

Fuck it! Kill all the people convicted of murder, rape, and kid molestation and send the rest to the Swat province in western Pakistan or drop them from a plane into the deserts of Iran.

You resurrect this thread and then post that tired old "turn it to glass" bullshit? You want some Freedom Fries with that line of garbage?
Next time, don't fucking bother.

exceptions as follows.....
1. Self-defense
2. In War
3. voluntary euthanasia
4. If the person killed just sped by, cut you off, hit the brakes, to get off at the exit.
I think this guy should be beheaded by Orthodox Jews, with some retarded jewish song in the background. Beheading should take place using a bagel knife, and should not happen on the sabbath.
