The Mets will go all the way this year and it's simply because their talent on paper is better than the yankees who have:

3 pitchers that are 40+
(Clemens Hernandez and Wells)

A horrible defensive infield
( Posada had a horrible error stat, Giambi blows, Tino saved at least 20 errors from Jeter, and Ventura is washed up.

an awful bullpen:
If batters didn't swing at that f'ng high fastball from Mariano he walks you, Karsay got rocked by the Mets last year, Stanton sucks and Mendoza is decent.

The Mets have:
a gold glove at 2nd SS and third

great offense

great bullpen if Benitez doesn't lose it

awesome bench with Valentin

and better fans.

The Yankees time is up!

With such great a great logical analysis of a team like that how can we argue. By the way you had your chance and blew in a few years ago. Make the playoffs first and then we will talk.

Sweetness, I am a Mets fan(baseball fan first) but I have to agree with Jester totally. Lets get through April first, May, June, etc...not for nothing the Mets look great on paper but lets see what happens throughout the year.

As for the Yankees, they always are the team to beat. Has been that way since 1996 unfortunatly. Clemens probably pitches better than he did when he was 25. He has more control to go with that 90+MPH fastball. Hernandez had a bad year (as did Edgardo Alfonso) and can only improve, Pettite and Mussina are guarnteed starters and Wells is a question mark. But a question mark that the Mets were willing to try for also. Problem is Boomer doesnt want to play for Bobby V. Lets let bygons be bygons and let see what happens on the field and not on a message board...

I'll start this like a civil person. The Mets finally made some improvements, but I wouldn't say they're as good as the Yankees just yet:

-Starting pitching: Let's not even kid here. The Mets are one injury away from having a minor league pitching staff. Leiter is always an iffy pitcher, Estes is generally a .500 pitcher, Astacio hasn't proven he can pitch after his injury, Chen blows...I know I'm missing someone, but the point is simple-the Mets could end up just like the Texas Rangers last year, with a great hitting team that loses a lot of 10-8 and 11-7 games. The Yanks staff, while older, still has a powerful Clemens, Pettite & Mussina, a rejuvinated and in better shape Wells, and then Hitchcock and Hernandez <who's not OVER 40, but rather pushing it hard>.

Relief: If you can say that the Yankees bullpen is awful, then words can't describe how terrible the Mets relievers are...if you can name more than 2 or 3. Who scares me? Benitez? Nah, 'cause if the game means anything he folds. Franco? Maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Rivera, Stanton, Mendoza will be just fine...remember, they've got 12 rings combined, and 6 of 'em were ripped out of Benitez' ass.

Now, if you want to talk lineups, I'm very realistic. The Mets made great moves in the offseason. However, take into account the fact that if you put 9 50 home run hitters in your lineup, you'll be lucky to get one to hit 50. Players take hits and runs from other players, therefore there will be some players who will disappoint by season's end.

If you want to talk about Posada's errors, realize most of them were in trying to throw out basestealers, and that Piazza's much worse in that regard <I think Piazza nailed like 4 guys all year, I'll have to check>.

Giambi goes into spring training with a strong team and Don Mattingly helping him at first. Also, in a few years, Giambi won't even be a first baseman, as he'll be DHing a lot more...

Also, remember that there are about 3 times as many Yankee fans as there are Met fans, so obviously we'll have more assholes. No, there aren't any drunken white trash bastards at Shea ever. Never.

I'm not saying the Mets will suck, actually, I'm sure they'll be competitive. Just don't think the Yanks are through just yet.

Oh, and I wonder what all those crybaby Mets fans who whined about the Yankees buying players feel now that their team bought a new lineup.

It's not funny, my ass is on fire...

What amazing logic. I'm sure because the fans are better (which they aren't), the Mets will definatly win.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME-AHHH!

The Mets didn't increase their payroll by much. Most of their new players were aquired by trade or their free agency cost was negated by dropping or trading someone else.

I could care less if the Yankees buy a championship, which they do, they're entitled to it. If a team can afford to put a better team on the field than the other so be it. The Yankees have alot of homegrown talent like Jeter and Bernie but the only way they can hold onto them is to pay them what anyone else would, hell the Mets wouldn't mind throwing them the cash if they could.

I don't see a major gap between how good the Mets or the Yanks are this year. The Yanks have great pitching and good offense, average defense. The Mets have average pitching, great offense, great defense.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a subway series this year.

Here's how I see it....

I've heard every excuse why the Mets aren't the team to beat this year and it pathetic how people want to try to cut them down, playa hating and all.

1) The Mets can save on air conditioning with all the whiffing taking place with Piazza, Vaughn, and Burnitz.

2) Question marks about Vaughn and Astacio's health.

3) Well they are the Mets, you have to come up with reasons why they won't win.

Every year its the same old song. Well i'm going to tell you why the Mets will win it all.

A) 1 thru 9 nobody has a better lineup. Burnitz is our #7 batter for christsake.

B) Our pitching is above average, not stellar, not world beaters, above average. Even if our lineup has average seasons all around they would more than hold up enough of the weight to get this staff through.

C) Defense. The best infield in baseball is back. Watching Ordonez and Alomar work their magic will truly be drool inducing.

D) A legitimate leadoff batter who steals tons of bases.

The Cardinals will win the central, Giants will win the west. The Atlanta will get the wild card.

In the AL, the Yanks will again dominate. I hate the Yanks but I respect their tremendous will to win. In the central im gonna go with the sentimental favorite, the Minnisota Twins. I think it would be great to see them spit in Bud Selig and hell even the owner's face by putting on a great season and drawing lots of fans. Fucking corporations are ruining baseball. But i digress, Oakland will win the west and Seattle and Texas will battle it out for the wild card, ultimately Texas will win.

Yanks and Mets meet again in a rematch of the 2000 subway series.

NL MVP: Mike Piazza, the protection will allow him to reach heights he never could have dreamed.

NL Cy Young: Schilling, he will distinquish himself from the big unit.

NL ROY: So Taguchi, Ichiro's teammate in Japan.

AL MVP: Jason Giambi, will make Yankee Stadium his playground

AL Cy Young: Mark Mulder, will give batters fits this year.

AL ROY: Esteban German, put up some nice numbers in AAA, good leadoff guy, steals a ton of bases

Mets beat the Giants in 4 and Atlanta beats the Cards in 5 the DS. Mets beat Atlanta in the NLCS in 5 games.

Yanks beat Oakland in a tight 5 game series, Twins continue a magical season as they whoop Texas in 4. Yanks beat Twins in 4.

Mets beat the Yanks in a classic 7 game series.

First off I don't even consider the Mets a lock for the National league title. I'm gonna make this short and sweet......Mets starters suck. No way are they winning the world series. By the way look for Mo Vaughn to dissapoint all you Met fans this year

Tell them Johnny Wadd was here

I'm not going to start some WFAN bit or re-action. I'll simply say two things.

1)Why don't the Mets and thier fans worry about maybe winning their division a bit more and beating the Braves...and not worry about the Yankees? What is it 10 or so years since you did that? Just pathetic.

2)Why don't you as a Met fan go to Port St. Lucie and tryout as a pitcher? You can be their 3rd starter. Let's see Leiter, Estes..and....uhhh...uhhh...maybe some hopeful or surprise? and you expect to win with that? You can not obviously be a realistic baseball fan if you have such expectations. You're a BLINDED, BITTER METS FAN THAT CAN'T DEAL WITH THE YANKEES. Just watch baseball, root for your team and hope for the best, instead of be-littling another team which you can't even compare with.

PS..I'm not a Yankee fan either...so don't give me any crap about how I'm just on their side or something. I'm a baseball fan and don't root for anyone specific.

Way to go Sweetness34...

your point is not only completely wrong... but you sound stupid making it.

I'm sorry sir... and I don't mean any disrespect to you...

but the fact that the yankees have an "old" pitching staff... nearly made me have a heart attack due to laughter... those guys have the capability to win 40 games on the mound next year.

As far as Giambi creating errors goes... what about the 50 homeruns the guy will hit?

When push comes to shove... the mets will be what they always have been... a second rate team in a first rate city... never seeing the light because they're too busy looking up at the Yankee franchise's ass.

i think its funny how its always mets fans on the offensive...you very rarely see a yankee fan start this sort of arguement, there's just no need. but of course, when the yankees are attacked, only then do the fans feel the need to point out the obvious

no team can dominate with a #1 pitcher who was 11-11 last year and has a poor career win percentage, a #2 pitcher that is only slightly over a career .500 winning percentage and is known for his inconsistency, and no real proven staff to follow

or, a very thin bullpen that, up and down the list, folds under pressure

and a lineup that does look a hell of a lot better than last year, but on the whole strikes out too much and has too many question marks for one reason or another.

they look good, but they cannot be compared

Thats cause all the Yankees fans are former Mets fans and are secure in a winning team... Secondly not all Mets fans go on the offensive. You have to remember that in the old days not everyone liked the Yankees. As a matter of fact the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants probably had more rabid fans than the Yankees ever could. People of Brooklyn believe that the Dodgers have been on a 44 year road trip... Why do I bring all this up?? Cause the traditions of loving National League baseball comes from these people. If any body knew anything about baseball at all they would know that the Mets colors are Orange and Blue in respect to these great teams of NY.

The traditions of our parents and grandparents not liking the Yankees goes back to them and the fact that the Yankees were the original expansion team in NY. (The Yankees were originally the Baltimore Orioles. A team which folded in 1903 and moved to NY with the upstart American League...after a few years as the Highlanders, they change there name to the Yankees in 1912). Yes the Yankees have had the good fortune and good managment throughout the years to have so many great traditions. And it is unfortunate that some Mets fans do go on the offensive without all there facts. But what we all are doing is carrying on the traditions of our parents and grandparents and the differences in liking NY teams...

The mets may win a game against the yankees during the regular season, but we all know that no one will go to a ball park that doesnt sell hot dogs in october. But rest assured, the hot dog vendors in the Bronx will passing out those stadium steaks.

Spreading nasal joy like I was johnny appleseed or maybe its because I keep hacking up grannie smiths.... chewy, gooey fun.
