WNEW changing formats?

I sure hope they dont kick R&F and every one else to the curb. After what i though was a successful fight night. Doing so will just upset the hardcore fans of the station.

Maybe if they'd promoted WNEW better it would do well in ratings..but nooo they had to rely on word of mouth.

see the problem with o and a leaving is that ron and fez get a lead in fromk them and no matter how hard core a ron and fez fan you are you cannot not deny o and a have contributed greatly to r and f's success
from characters formerly on thier show to the lead in and also the afro shows took them up a level too. i'm pretty sure that krock thing is correct but it'll be wierd

If this meeting with Mel tommorrow means a big change as O and A have been hinting, the way I see it three things can happen

1) It's to tell O and A to move to Krock and switch Wnew's format which will hurt ron and Fez because I dont see anyone else from Wnew moving to Krock.

2) They will move Howard to Wnew which would benefit Ron and Fez because it will improve Wnew's ratings and stablize the station.

3) Wnew will stick with the current format but replace certain shows to get a new feel for the station. Which shows will be replaced is anyones guess but the likely candidate to be dismissed are don and Mike bec their ratings are putrid.

I've been waiting for this topic to come up. The OA talk about "taking a different train" was not a good thing.

Their show will work in either an all talk format or a lineup with big bird in the morning and music during the day and evening parts.

It's virtually a given that if they were moved off NEW, R&F would be gone. And that just sucks.

Worst of all, WNEW could be a success as a talk-fm if the ego of Big Bird wasn't so damn big. Put him on in the morning, followed by D&M, O&A and R&F, and you have a strong lineup. But TPTB won't ever let that happen.

I hope the day never comes where this board goes the way fo the old R&Ron board. I'm thinking negetive...must stop...

I hope that WNEW doesn't change formats, OR O&A get moved. If either happens, as much as I hate to say it, but I think R&F are doomed. They may find a home somewhere, but I don't like their chances at WNEW.

I'm hoping that the management just drops a certain show in the midday slot. One thing that Anthony was doing today was dropping a lot of hints at Don & Mike being a big contributor to the bad ratings. I know at one point, they were talking about the mistakes made by management about shows, and Anthony said something like "Yeah, it started 18 months ago", referring (I believe) to Don & Mike's arrival in NYC radio.

I'm not claiming to be "inside", but here are some facts.

1) Opie's hatred of Kingston is well known. Kingston is the PD of K-Rock. Opie + Kingston is not a good combo, so I can't see them on K-Rock.

2) If O&A go to K-Rock, that displaces Cane. Cane might go back to nights, but don't forget, Cane is a "face", much like Carson Daly is. He acts, he does spots for VH1, he's a Viacom commodity.

O&A were screaming about a lead-in. Obviously, D&M are not the answer.

i think you guys might be missing something, Infinity wont get rid of Don and Mike period. What you forget is that N.Y. isnt the center of the universe, and although Don and Mike arent doing great in N.Y. they are still #1 in pretty much every other market or have increased listenership of the station for that timeslot. The real problem is Howard Stern who everyone hates.

Let's forget about numbers for a moment and think about appeal. Don and Mike do not appeal to NY/NJ radio listeners the way Ron and Fez do and as far as Howard goes he's on top of the radio food chain because he's opened many doors for these people. It's possible to listen to Howard and Ron&Fez I do every day. Howard on the way to work and Ron&Fez on the way home.It's hard to get over myself. I'm a New Yorker for life!!
