Jay Mohr's "Mafia"...a finely crafted piece of cinema that will forever keep Scorsese and Coppola in its shadow. So good, Lloyd Bridges felt he could do no better, and promptly died during filming.

"New Jack City". Chris Rock was funny as the crackhead.
Going back many years, there was another great film, "Across 110th Street", starring Anthony Quinn and Yaphet Kotto.

Across 110th st is great, with a great title track by Mr Bobby Womack.(The soundtrack is great, but if you just want to here that one song its on the Jackie Brown soundtrack which is a great movie in its own right.)

Besides the Godfather movies, the old ones were great. Roaring Twenties, White Heat, Dead End, Each Dawn I Die and Angels With Dirty Faces. I would watch gangster week movies in the afternoon on WWOR, which is now UPN. Wow, that was a long time ago, I forgot about those films. They were damn good.

How baout Scarface. Either the 1931 one with Paul Muni which I bought from a video store going out of business or the Pacino one which (seriously) is being sequalized focusing on Tony Montana's son.

And I remember Johnny Dangerously. When I was younger and my favorite movie changed weekly, this occupied the space for a couple of non consecutive weeks. "You Farkin Iceholes!!"

Art Mooney?

You must be talking about Zuzu Petals...a guitar once played by a left handed genius...a dead rockstar's coffin made out of glass...sambuca milkshakes...that hottie Jazz...and a Fred Flintstone ring.

I thought I was the only person who liked that movie. If you aren't referencing the movie that I think you are, I'll crawl back under the rock from which I came out from...

came out in 1990 and was overshadowed by "Goodfellas" but I always thought "State Of Grace" was decent (Sean Penn, Ed Harris, Gary Oldman).

Along the same lines: I caught "Monument Avenue" (Dennis Leary, Martin Sheen, Greg Dulli) at the Angelica in 1997... VERY good flick.

I actually prefer Demme direction and the editing in "Monument Avenue" over "State Of Grace"...

it's like... MOVIE SEX!
