  • I can't understand Ron, especially with a comic background, defending Eddie Murphy's career.

Steve Martin isn't criticized for his choices? Robin Williams?!

Martin was critically destroyed (and deservedly so...) for the Pink Panther movies, not to mention the Queen Latifah films. Robin Williams has had some very good choices, but he also made "RV" and "Old Dogs."

Albert Brooks, fine. But no one cares about him more than Ron and HTG do anyway...

I would defend Ron's point by saying that Martin and Williams have sporadically appeared in horrendous movies pretty much from the early stages of their careers onward, Murphy had this string of fairly consistent movies up to the release of "The Golden Child" then the critics spent the next few years calling anything Eddie made dogshit UNTIL he made "The Nutty Professor." After that, Eddie went on to do family movies almost exclusively, and incredibly terrible ones at that.

I'll grant Ron's point that Die Hard was written as a sort of Eddie movie (actually, it was a rewritten "Commando"sequel, so the dialog lends itself more to Arnold than Eddie, but... whatever)

I find Eddie to be incredibly overrated.

        • I always find it interesting that Ron bashes critics & journalists who bag on comedians for not being funny. (IE, people who take shots at Jay Leno)
He always gives THEM shit for "never having told a funny joke in their fucking lives". As if... THAT has anything to do with anything. He sometimes dares them to "get out there and do 5 minutes of standup, and lemme know how THAT works out for ya.".

          Total cop out.
That has nothing to do with anything. People still know what's funny and what isn't, regardless of if they've done a formal standup routine. If this really DID matter... Ron should shut the fuck up about movies (as he's never directed or appeared in one), restaraunts (as he's never managed one, designed one, or cooked in a kitchen), books (he's never written even a single chapter), etc etc etc.

Also... he often tells stories about how, 30 years ago, he saw Jay Leno "just DESTROY a room! He KILLED! He fuckin' destroyed that room. Nooobody destroyed a club the way Jay Leno destroyed a club back in 85. He slayed!".
As if THAT has anything to do with how painfully unfunny Leno is to us on The Tonight Show.
That set was a decades ago, Ron. It has no bearing now.
And... we didn't see that set. We weren't there. Some of us weren't born. It has no bearing now.

Ron's refusal to let millions upon millions of people have an educated, thought out, deserved opinion (based on our experiences, mind you!) really reveals an insecurity in Ron. It's very "hey everyone!! dig me!! notice ME!".

This one has been bugging me, too. Though it doesn't even take DVR. Even if you want to watch something live, It's not hard to find ANY channel on TV. You just use your cable box's guide.

The only legitimate excuse for his argument would be (and I'm sure this doesn't apply to him), would be if you have multiple TV's, but not all of them have cable boxes. We have a TV that is hooked to cable in our dining room. It's not used heavily, so we don't have a cable box for it (also resulting in getting only about 70 channels, instead of the normal bajilion). If you can't remember where all 70 or channels are, then yes... It can be hard to remember where all the channels are.

EDIT: Another problem I have when he says this is, it's often about a show that's on FX. Yet, he has been an admitted fan of "It's Always Sunny" for years. That show is on FX! Sure... They replay it on Comedy Central, but he has talked about watching current season shows.

                    • The cool thing was that I watch some of the shows he brought up, which doesn't happen much. Got The Rosie Show on now. But I only get it for the monolog. She can be funny at times.

                              • Whenever they talk about those big bacon-cheese-more bacon "heart attack" burgers... Ron always makes a staggering non-sensical argument:
"why do they call it a 'heart attack burger'? That doesn't even make SENSE! You could eat bacon in the morning... a burger for lunch.... and another cheese burer for dinner, and you wouldn't have a heart attack. What difference does it make if you eat 'em all together?"

For Ron to even PRETEND like that statement is valid, is shockingly childlike.

There are millions of examples of synergy, and food is no different.

You could do 2 eight balls over the course of two days, and live to tell about it. But you couldn't do it all in one sitting. Your heart could very well explode.
                                Same goes for liquor.
And similarly..... sodium, fats, grease, etc.
