-   -   More Impressive? Favre's Streak or Ripken's (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=77542)

Remember when Ripken was in jail for trying to beat up Kevin Costner because he found out he was having an affair with his wife, and Peter Angelos got that night's game cancelled by claiming the stadium's lights were malfunctioning so it wouldn't break Ripken's streak? I love urban legends.

TheMojoPin 02-13-2009 11:24 AM

Besides, the real answer is Billy Ripken's "Fuck Face" card.

hammersavage 02-13-2009 11:24 AM

Dude, I know a guy who says it was real, mikey.

Even so, I'd still be amazed by his record.

When you're dealing with long term endurance and longevity, HGH is almost always the drug of choice. I have some older friends who take it by physician's prescription and I am amazed at some of the age reversing effects it can have.

Neither one impresses me because both men insisted on playing when they weren't of any use to their team just to have an individual record.

Playing with broken fingers as a QB isn't "tough" or "brave" it's detrimental to your team. People who applaud these guys are the same assholes who come into work when they're deathly ill with a 103 degree fever, sneezing all over everyone.

STAY THE FUCK HOME!

There was a kid in my school that didn't miss a single day of school from the 4th grade on.

He sucked.

Ugh. I hated those kids.

One took pain killers and the other one did human growth hormone so I say neither.

His name was Cal Ripken Jr.

Some other factors that favor ripken:
no bye week, football players get days off during the week before games and ripkens consecutive innings streak

Ripken played on a team that went wire to wire in '97. He was certainly of use to that team, and that was a couple of years after 2131.

The real answer, though, is Peyton Manning when he breaks Farve's record in 7 short years....

Not to mention when Favre was really injured he would take 2 snaps and leave the game to keep the streak alive.

I don't know if Ripkin did the same or not.

I say Ripkin either way.

And Farve was mainlining painkillers for quite a while, and had to do some time in a substance abuse program because of it.

Umm...Freakshow....Favre never played 2 snaps and left the game. Rhino was being "ironical".

Freakshow 02-13-2009 03:45 PM

it wasn't really in response to his quote, i'm not sure why I quoted him.

sailor 02-13-2009 04:03 PM

Brett Favre - 291 Consecutive Starts over 18 years of service in NFL

Cal Ripken - 2632 Consecutive Starts over 16 years of service in MLB

Remember, football is a much more grueling sport as far as injuries are concerned, but the shear amount of games that a baseball player must participate needs to be considered..

no question its favre, playing QB in the nfl, all the hits he's took, and not once missing a game

all ripken had to do was show up, he could go 0 for 4 and have no balls hit to him all night and still get credit for playing in the game

yeh ripken played or had to play in more games but he could just DH somes nights to "rest him" and still keep the streak

wasnt there a bunch of times where he'd DH to keep it going ??

and i think there was sometimes where he'd play the field in the first inning , bat third in the bottom half and call it a day

not sure if that was before or after the 2131

Knowledged_one 02-13-2009 06:04 PM

But ripken never dhed how many games did favre start then come out of

Knowledged_one 02-13-2009 06:10 PM

Oh and ripken had a consecutive inning streak of 8243 close to 920 straight games
