Was anyone a Skater?
Specifically skateboarding. I was never into halfpipes, I was more street skating, ramps, rails stuff like that. My 1st board was a Vision Gator that was used. I finally saved up enough for a Powell Peralta Lance Mountain board. The deck was gripped from front to back. I had Powell Peralta Crozzbones wheels and Independent Trucks. That was a badass board.
Good times, This the mid to late 80's. |
yep, had a ton of that very gear over time but loved to customize the grip tape on top of my decks
|
i was. i fell like 20 feet onto a cement halfpipe, broke my tailbone, broke my hip and fucked my back and had to stop. but i miss skating
|
I was in love with a skater from 1988-1991. Had a subscription to Thrasher and everything. I wonder where that guy is now? Time for some internet stalking.....
|
Same time frame here almost little earler late 70's early 80's And I also skated on a local level. My board was a Dogtown with 10' Indy trucks Kryptonics green conical wheels I think those were the wheel brand hard to remember that and what happened to my boards.
I also had a 4 truck 8 wheel board I would use like it was a bike sometimes and go long distances. |
i skated from like 9091- until around 2003 or 4 i cant remember which it was. I was riding in harlem at the big skate park along the west side highway and i drifted off the wall and landed on the bottom on my ass and fucked my shit up bad. im still all fucked up from it.
Now i still have a board and ride around and stuff but my trick days are long over, reserved for Snowboarding only |
I wish we had those skate parks,. We had to rely on loading docks, those parking lot rails, curbs and things like that. I was getting my board regripped and I used a variflex for the time being, talk about night and day. The wheels on that thing were the worst

Ive got banged up a few times, but luckily never broke any bones. I did see one of my friends pull a bad face plant he did a railslide on a hand rail that went down a flight of steps to this day it still hurts to think about it. He ended up breaking his nose and had a busted lip so bad he look like he fought Pacquaio
|
I was all about riding bmx bikes. Fuck that was fun.

I'm really confused. Is this supposed to be like an allegory of how the Obama administration has skated by and avoided any serious legal obstacles as it has pushed its socialist agenda and trampled the constitution at every turn? Is the reference to boards, decks, trucks and pipes supposed to be an illustration of the employment of illegal immigrants by the home improvement industry at the expense of American workers? And surely the nostalgia for the 1980's must be a call for the return of a Reagan era trickle down economic model. |
I was a rollerblader for a few year or two around 95. Had a quarter pipe in the driveway and a rail. Moved on to bmx, mostly just dirt ramps and shit.
Oh how I loved the JNCO pants. Turned prep about 7th grade in middle school though and stopped bmxing/skating all together. |

Yes
Up until three years ago I've worked at local skateparks and even had a short stint at zumiez where I was fired for verbally assaulting the district manager and calling him a poser I can hop on a board right now and rock it |
I preferred blank decks because I landed everything tail heavy so I was good to break a board every weekend. Had to keep costs down
I've pulled off some amazing shit though |

I haven't been near a skateboard since the 70's.
Back then, they were really thin and cheesy. http://images.canadianlisted.com/nla...al_4466900.jpg |

No offense Greg but it clearly states that you were near a skateboard on august 27th 2005. You don't have to lie right to my face. I still love you

I had me a "Goofy Foot" skateboard.
It was a significant upgrade over those roller skates that clamped on the bottom of one's shoes and would come loose at the worst moment...... |
I used to skate in the mid-late 80s. Nothing crazy. Just street skating, steps, shit like that. There was a pretty cool skate shop on South St. we would hang out at, skate around in the street and fuck around with the Hari-Krishnas during the summer.
I dont remember all the brands and shit like that. All I know is I had a Jeff Kendall deck, rode goofy footed, and kept my trucks insanely loose. I liked to coast back and forth almost like I was surfing. And like spoon, I loved customizing the grip tape on the top of the deck. |

The classic Goofy Foot skateboard was even thinner and didn't have the spoiler-looking thing in the back. It had a couple red footprints on it. I think they cost, like, $5 circa 1967. I think they were made out of birch. Some had racing stripes down the middle... |

On a side note, I just bought a pair of Vision Street Wear sneakers from a guy in England who bought a storage unit full of unsold skater merchandise from the 90's. I'm in nerdy heaven. |
i love avril lavigne
i'd kill to spit in her little asshole  |
Skating was a passing fad for me when I was a kid.
The first skates everyone had were those crappy things that would clamp on to the soles of your shoes (they wouldn't work on tennis shoes). They were good for a laugh when they'd come loose on some kid as he went down a hill and was sent tumbling. Then we got shoe skates and that was fun for a while. Black for boys, white for girls. |
I tried, but with most things in my life when I didn't get it intuitively I gave up. I think my cousin has my board now.
|
When I was a kid I got one of those old wooden boards as a hand me down. I never skated. My buddies and I would just have one guy ride a bike back and forth, while two of us would try to roll it under the rear wheel of the bike, causing a cool crash.
|
I had a dream last night I tried to do an olly for what seemed like an eternity and couldn't manage it. My dreams fucking suck.

"Goofy foot" was a surfing term for someone left-handed, er, left-footed, and that was how the footprints on the board were placed, with the left one in front. |
right, except left up front is regular foot
|
The green one was all green nothing on it just color.
|
I was terrible at skating, I never had a good board, I never liked Christian Hosoi that much, and Danny Way was after my time, but because I'm a menopausal old woman, I almost shed a tear last night watching the end of the Hosoi documentary where Hosoi gets out of prison in 2004 and goes to watch the X Games and Danny Way did the Christ Air in tribute.
|
danny way was around since way back.. he was in ban this or public domain as a kid. i think he skated for H street back then............ he's been an underground legend for decades
i met and skated with hosoi and el gato in maybe 88/89/90.......... i was more of a tony hawk kid tho so i was like whaeva |
Back then me and my friends would drive around after practice and yell stuff like "SKATER FAGS!!" at the skateboarders. LMAOx51 Now we dress like they used to and listen to all their music! Heck, I even play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on XBOX 360 from time to time!
|
yeah you suck and so do all the people out there just like you
