Was anyone a Skater?

Specifically skateboarding. I was never into halfpipes, I was more street skating, ramps, rails stuff like that. My 1st board was a Vision Gator that was used. I finally saved up enough for a Powell Peralta Lance Mountain board. The deck was gripped from front to back. I had Powell Peralta Crozzbones wheels and Independent Trucks. That was a badass board.

Good times, This the mid to late 80's.

spoon 02-04-2012 04:08 PM

yep, had a ton of that very gear over time but loved to customize the grip tape on top of my decks

Snoogans 02-04-2012 04:20 PM

i was. i fell like 20 feet onto a cement halfpipe, broke my tailbone, broke my hip and fucked my back and had to stop. but i miss skating

jennysmurf 02-04-2012 04:29 PM

I was in love with a skater from 1988-1991. Had a subscription to Thrasher and everything. I wonder where that guy is now? Time for some internet stalking.....

hanso 02-04-2012 04:30 PM

Same time frame here almost little earler late 70's early 80's And I also skated on a local level. My board was a Dogtown with 10' Indy trucks Kryptonics green conical wheels I think those were the wheel brand hard to remember that and what happened to my boards.

I also had a 4 truck 8 wheel board I would use like it was a bike sometimes and go long distances.

Snoogans 02-04-2012 04:32 PM

i skated from like 9091- until around 2003 or 4 i cant remember which it was. I was riding in harlem at the big skate park along the west side highway and i drifted off the wall and landed on the bottom on my ass and fucked my shit up bad. im still all fucked up from it.

Now i still have a board and ride around and stuff but my trick days are long over, reserved for Snowboarding only

WRESTLINGFAN 02-04-2012 04:38 PM

I wish we had those skate parks,. We had to rely on loading docks, those parking lot rails, curbs and things like that. I was getting my board regripped and I used a variflex for the time being, talk about night and day. The wheels on that thing were the worst

we have a couple around here now but they didnt go up til i was already like 20 years old. For the most part, i was just using steps and benches and shit like you had to. Thats why i really wasnt good enough to be jumpin in a 20 foot vert ramp but i did it like an asshole. To this day i still wish i had just gone home

WRESTLINGFAN 02-04-2012 05:34 PM

Ive got banged up a few times, but luckily never broke any bones. I did see one of my friends pull a bad face plant he did a railslide on a hand rail that went down a flight of steps to this day it still hurts to think about it. He ended up breaking his nose and had a busted lip so bad he look like he fought Pacquaio

JohnGacysCrawlSpace 02-04-2012 07:53 PM

I was all about riding bmx bikes. Fuck that was fun.

I don't understand this thread at all.

I'm really confused. Is this supposed to be like an allegory of how the Obama administration has skated by and avoided any serious legal obstacles as it has pushed its socialist agenda and trampled the constitution at every turn?

Is the reference to boards, decks, trucks and pipes supposed to be an illustration of the employment of illegal immigrants by the home improvement industry at the expense of American workers?

And surely the nostalgia for the 1980's must be a call for the return of a Reagan era trickle down economic model.

I was a rollerblader for a few year or two around 95. Had a quarter pipe in the driveway and a rail. Moved on to bmx, mostly just dirt ramps and shit.

Oh how I loved the JNCO pants. Turned prep about 7th grade in middle school though and stopped bmxing/skating all together.

I used to wear JNCO pants, but that was more as a raver than a skater.

Yes
Up until three years ago
I've worked at local skateparks and even had a short stint at zumiez where I was fired for verbally assaulting the district manager and calling him a poser

I can hop on a board right now and rock it

danlaroe 02-05-2012 09:28 AM

I preferred blank decks because I landed everything tail heavy so I was good to break a board every weekend. Had to keep costs down

I've pulled off some amazing shit though

Blanks are the way to go. fuck payin 150 cause there is an element logo on the same fuckin wood. I used to buy white blanks for 19.99 and just move my trucks from board to board

Gvac 02-05-2012 10:45 AM

I haven't been near a skateboard since the 70's.

Back then, they were really thin and cheesy.

No offense Greg but it clearly states that you were near a skateboard on august 27th 2005. You don't have to lie right to my face. I still love you

high fly 03-13-2012 04:04 PM

I had me a "Goofy Foot" skateboard.
It was a significant upgrade over those roller skates that clamped on the bottom of one's shoes and would come loose at the worst moment......
