That was quick. Don Imus is reportedly returning to WFAN soon, and the DJs are the ones starting the rumors.
Imus buds Mike Francesa and Chris Russo, of “Mike and the Mad Dog,” while celebrating the sports station’s 20th anniversary last Friday, whispered that a deal to bring the talk-radio legend back to the radio station is in the works.
“When we return to our regular schedule this September, I hope the team will once again be complete,” Francesa said.
Imus was fired when he eloquently called the Rutgers women’s basketball team “nappy headed hos.” Since then, Imus has received numerous offers, but he is unable to accept any until he settles with CBS. Returning to the radio would avoid a legal battle over his current contract.
I guess with legal battles, it’s pick your poison. Al Sharpton probably already has one in the works.
Great news if this is true! I was just about to run over my transister!

that would be awesome if it happens. i am sure once CBS crucnhed the numbers and saw how much less money they were bringing in, they realized this might not have been such a great idea.

I never doubted he would find work again or be rehired - radio eats it's own more than any other industry, but it is always hungry for seconds. Personal feelings aside, I'm glad for him and his fans. Everyone on here knows what it's like when your favorite radio show is no longer available.
Still - personal feelings NOTaside, I think he does a dull, shitty radio - I think less of him than just about anyone in current American media - and I'm reminded of the lovely Sue Hawk from the first Survivor, and while I may not completely agree with the paraphrase: If I saw (him) in the desert, dying of thirst, I would not stop to give (him) a sip of water and that I'd like to see the vultures get (him) - I do not completely disagree either.
Well, I will confess to hoping this is true and to being an Imus fan. Maybe it's an old age thing but I enjoy him torturing political types with questions they don't want to answer and I think he put together the best staff that I've ever listened to. Plus I feel I owe him because listening to him enabled me to "discover" O&A and O&A led me to Ron & Fez.
Even if you think he's washed up and been mailing it in (and there were times when that was all too true over the last couple of years) or just not funny, I think we can all agree that living in a Post-Post-Imus world will remove the choke chain from our hero, Mr. Ron Bennington, so prepare for extra hilarity if & when this happens.

Well it looks like the return is a go, Sharpton has allowed the I-Man to work again. He's scouting for a black sidekick. I hope he doesn't just put Sid Rosenberg in blackface. That won't work.
More Talk: Imus Coming Back To WFAN - 7/17 - The NY Post reports that Don Imus is coming back to the airwaves in September, according to private eye Bo Dietl, who was a regular on "Imus In The Morning" on WFAN. Dietl said on NY Post State Editor Fred Dicker's Albany radio show, "I'm not supposed to say, but... if he was to be coming back, I would look to September." When Dicker asked if he meant satellite radio, Dietl replied, "Broadcast." Another source says Imus has been scouting comedy clubs looking for a black sidekick who will take the sting out of any future racial cracks like the one that got him booted off the air.....
Al Sharpton OK With An Imus Return
July 17, 2007
There has been recent speculation that Don Imus could return to the radio sooner rather than later. The New York Post's sources say he could be back on terrestrial radio as soon as September. The Rev. Al Sharpton was recently questioned about a potential return for Imus.
"My position is that we never called for him to be permanently barred from being on the air," Sharpton told Radar Online. "We'll see when he comes back, and if he comes back, what are the boundaries and what is the understanding. We'll be monitoring the situation, but we wanted him to pay for being a repeat abuser, and he paid. We never said we didn't want him to make a living."
The Post also reports there have been rumors that Imus is scouting for a black comedian as a new sidekick, to "take the sting out of" any future racially-related humor. However, Sharpton said, "A sidekick is not cover. What he needs to give him cover is his own conscience and whether he'll live up to the apology he gave those Rutgers girls."

it is laughable when Rev. Al speaks, and even funnier that it will be OK for him to come back as long as he has a black sidekick. that is more racist than what he said.

I wonder if he can bring back bernie? If he does that changes the show a lot. With Bernie you are going to have to have a strong comedian (Patrice) to keep up with it. Chuck Nice would get destroyed with Bernie there.

Seems like DL Hugley would work on the show.
Bernie ll be back and as for a comedian it'll be someone that doesn't have that much goin for them. Patrice and DL Hughley are too strong for that show. They'd have to be an unknown. Maybe Cowboy troy.
