The skin of the scrotum is different from other skin in many regards. It's stretchy, contracting and expanding to allow the nuts to achieve proper sperm-growing temperatures at all times, and it's thin and oily. The oil glands of the scrotum get big and juicy from time to time, causing a nice crop of flesh colored nodules wherever a hair follicle is.
If the bumps are RED, that's abnormal and may be a sign of infection or inflammation of the follicles called "folliculitis".
If they're huge: http://www.dermis.net/bilder/CD016/550px/img0041.jpg (NSFW...it's a picture of a scrotum, after all), this is a benign condition called "scrotal calcinosis" where calcium deposits build up under the skin.
If they're clusters of BLISTERS, you have herpes, go see someone right away.
hope this helps! enlarged scrotal oil glands are normal. the reason you don't know that is because you've not examined a whole lotta scrotums up close in your time.

Thank you for posting this. I was starting to think that maybe I was the abnormal one because I don't have nodes on my balls that shoot out rocks when squeezed like some testicular Tundro from the Herculoids.

All it involves is the hair starts growing and instead of popping out of the skin it curls under and causes a bump to form. A lot of times there is some type of pus also, kind of like a pimple. debated whether I should make this a different Ask Dr. Steve thread or just throw it in here. obviously going with posting here since a nut question.
One of my balls is much bigger than the other. No doctor has ever said it is a problem but this scrotum talk has made me curious. Is it normal to have such unbalanced balls?
