Okay ... this is about sigpics!

Why can't we increase the allowable kb of our sigpics?

Many of us are now making animated sigpics ... and to make a decent one it's usually more than 30kb { the allowable kb } ...

Will it really f*** up this site?

{ I know I am gonna' hear it from the mods ... so fire away! LOL }

shit i am lucky i have a sig pic.. thanks to skidmark and fallon... i would not even know how to make an animated sig pic... consider yourself lucky you how... :)

With all due respect Christy. You really need to visit other message boards first then come back here. You'll be amazed at how boring other boards are! Some boards only allow <b>text</b> as a signature. Others only allow pictures or icons under your name. Then you have message boards where you aren't allowed either!! As far as the size of the sig (30kb). That's there for the members of the board who still use <b>dial-up</b> to connect to the internet. The size keeps the downloading time to a minimum. Besides I see it as a challenge to see how much digital bliss one can actually fit into a 30kb sig.

if they allowed that everybody with dial-up access wouldn't see it anyway. they would finish reading the thread before the sig's downloaded :) but of course I would love to not have to optimize my sig's to 30k. they end up looking pretty bad and I usually have to remove half the frames. :(

It really does slow up modem users. Think about it:
On a page with 25 posts, at 30k a sig pic, there is 750 extra kbs.

At around 50kps (about the best a 56k modem can do) that's 15 extra seconds to load a page (not to mention the lag of getting all the hosting sites to respond).

After just four pageviews (a couple topics), the modem user had to sit there an extra minute. That blows.

That's the worse case scenerio at current standards. Imagine if we let people unlimitted sig pic size.

And, before you argue that it's stupid for anyone to have a modem anymore, I want to point out that, while most hardcore users have cable, most casual users have 56k. We don't want to do anything to potentially turn away casual or new users.

I'm a phone user and the time it takes sucks enough, please don't make it slower.

We country folks don't have cable connection available yet, someday I hope.

I use this piece of crap DSL from aol. Half the time it's out and i'm stuck with my stoneage 56k

i remember when 56k was the thing to have. now its cable or DSL. im doing everything in my power to convince my dad to get cable, hopefully by the end of summer i will have it.
